In all my years as a sportswriter, I never had a chance to cover the Olympics. I’m sure that if I did, my heart would swell with pride when a kababayan like Carlos Yulo wins a gold medal and causes our national anthem to play in a stadium packed with thousands of spectators, with millions more watching around the globe. Here is “Caloy” Yulo with my former boss, BusinessMirror sports editor Lorenzo “Jun” Lomibao. Mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino! #Olympics #CarlosYulo #Philippines #Paris2024

We recently unveiled the first-ever Roche Regional Health Forum for the Bangsamoro region in Zamboanga City. With the theme “Healthcare Delivery System for Breast and Cervical Cancer: Challenges and Innovative Goals for Zamboanga City and BARMM Region,” the two-day event drew healthcare professionals, members of the academe, Department of Health (DOH) executives, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) government officials in meaningful discussions on the state of healthcare in the region. Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, BARMM Minister of Health, graced the event and encouraged stakeholders to help raise the state of healthcare across the region and its estimated 4.4 million residents. Dr. Diana Edralin, MD, DPCOM, Roche (Philippines) Inc. General Manager for Pharmaceuticals, delivered a short talk on Sustainable Biotechnology for attendees from all over BARMM and Zamboanga City. Dr. Diana also stressed Roche’s support for the proposed Bangsamoro Cancer Care Act, legislation establishing cancer care and evacuation centers across the region. Thank you to our partners in Zamboanga and the Bangsamoro region for their warm hospitality and friendship during our stay. We will continue working with local and regional officials there and across the country and develop more partnerships to deliver sustainable healthcare solutions for more Filipinos.

Filipinos love extending significant events – think our world-renowned Christmas season – and we at Roche in the Philippines are no different. The local celebration of the Roche Children’s Walk, our largest employee-driven fundraising event, kicked off its 21st year on June 24 with our OneRoche teams from Pharmaceuticals (led by Dr. Diana Edralin, MD, DPCOM), Diagnostics (led by Marco Valencia Sanchez), and Diabetes Care (led by Russell Ibit, CPA,MBA) split into Teams Blue, Purple, and Orange. With the sky and sun cooperating and proudly wearing our white Children’s Walk t-shirts, we marched back and forth down Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City on that early Monday morning to make known our continued commitment to making a difference for children around the globe. A Treasure Hunt got all of us busy searching for the hidden “gems” our organizing team scattered across High Street. When we returned to “base”, UNICEF’s education and international development expert Jukka Tulivuori updated us on how our efforts are helping improve the local education system. And because we are in the Philippines, Roche has stretched our Children’s Walk activities throughout July via various fundraisers. For details on those, stay tuned!

Our very own Dr. Maria Teresa Teng Dioko (seated, center in top photo, third from left in bottom photo) chairs the Chamber's Healthcare Committee. With the ECCP, we at Roche continue to advocate for and work toward what's best for Filipino patients.

𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗖𝗬 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 | Last 17 July, the ECCP Healthcare Committee convened for a regular committee meeting at the ECCP office. During the meeting, the group had a productive discussion on suggested approaches and next steps regarding the industry’s advocacy recommendations relating to procurement and health technology assessment, among other pertinent matters. The members also had an exchange on their recent initiatives and opportunities to collaborate in several sector initiatives. #ECCPAdvocacy #ChamberOfChoice

Today, we join Filipinos worldwide in celebrating our 126th anniversary of Independence. Once again, we are reminded that #freedom is worth fighting for – in particular, the freedom from the oppression of diseases that limit us from leading healthy and fulfilling lives. In the Philippines, our fight for a healthier future requires the exercise of our famed “bayanihan” spirit. We, in the pharmaceutical and #healthcare industry, continue to work together with the government, medical professionals, civic society, and the private sector to deliver the life saving solutions that allow Filipinos to attain the highest attainable standard of health conducive to living a life in dignity. In spirit of courage, resilience and unity of Philippine independence, we reiterate our commitment to working with our partners and stakeholders to bring the meaningful, liberating, life-changing health #innovations to those who need it most. With patient access at the core of our ethic, we will help build strong, responsive and resilient healthcare systems so Filipinos can truly celebrate their freedom – from the bondage of illness, from worry, and from want. Let us value and cherish these freedoms, paid for by the sacrifices of our forefathers, by prioritizing our #health, our families and loved ones, and our dignity. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas, mabuhay ang Pilipino! #philippineindepenceday #arawngkalayaan #healthierfuture #strongforsomeone #bayanihanforhealth
