Last week, I attended The White House and U.S. Department of Education Summit on Digital Equity, Inclusion, and Emerging Technology. The event was part of a collaboration with our partner Digital Promise, a global non-profit shaping the future of learning and equitable education using technology. The day was filled with engaging conversations about bridging the digital learning gap. Key takeaways: 1️⃣ Professional development is critical for integrating technology into teaching. 2️⃣ Technology should be an integral part of teaching, not an add-on. 3️⃣ Students thrive when they create technology - not just consume it. 🚀 Teachers are digital equity champions, transforming classrooms with technology. Kudos to Jean-Claude Brizard, CEO of Digital Promise, for leading the way and for our long-time partnership through Verizon Innovative Learning! Together, we empower teachers to meet every child’s unique needs.

V Teamers gave NAF high school students a front-row seat to life as a network engineer at Verizon’s Basking Ridge HQ! From 5G tech to career advice, students got an inside look and asked all the big questions. NAF takes students beyond what traditional high schools offer by providing access to the tools that will help them navigate and build skills for what’s next, whether that’s college, a career, or another pathway. Congratulations to our awesome summer V-terns, who have been a vital part of our team and finished really strong today! They took on one of the industry's most important issues, and they gave an engaging and insightful presentation on: "Universal Service Fund (USF) & Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Reform." They were poised, thoughtful, charismatic, and had tons of stage presence and energy! And they were smart on the substance, which is not an easy feat given the complexity of the topic and the fact that most of them were not even born when Congress passed the Telecommunications Act of 1996! A huge thank you to this talented team for the terrific presentation today and invaluable contributions throughout the summer: Jada B., Boluwatife Jide-Olugbade, Jingyao Luo, Alya Patel, Alejandro Plate, and Andrew Ware. I enjoyed seeing you grow as leaders and look forward to seeing you thrive in your careers. Don't be strangers! #SummerInterns #Vterns #TelecomPolicy #USF

From launching our first-ever esports league to introducing new content for educators, we're continuing to impact learning at a local and national level.   This fall, we're welcoming 34 new Verizon Innovative Learning Schools and opening 18 Verizon Innovative Learning Labs. Our free education portal, Verizon Innovative Learning HQ, includes new tech-driven content and resources to help K-12 educators integrate esports and gaming into their classrooms.    Thanks to our partnership with Games for Change, we’ve started our first-ever scholastic high school esports league! With free coaching from esports professionals, students have the amazing opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills, and explore careers in one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. The significance of integrating technology into education is immense. It opens new doors for learning, sparks creativity, and nurtures critical thinking. We’re making learning fun while equipping students with essential digital skills to excel in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. This commitment to leveraging technology ensures that our students are ready to seize the opportunities of tomorrow.   We are thrilled to have reached nearly 8 million students, with the goal of providing 10 million youths with digital skills training by 2030. #TBT to Auction 1 - The FCC held its first #spectrum auction 30 years ago. That auction, and the dozens that followed, supercharged mobile connectivity in the U.S. Now this anniversary comes at a pivotal time. Read more ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Thirty years ago this week, the FCC held its first spectrum auction. Having supercomputers in our pockets and an app economy that puts the world at our fingertips was a pipedream. Today, Verizon works to power and empower how Americans live, work and play. There is barely a part of daily life that is not affected by the connectivity provided by mobile broadband networks – powered by licensed, auctioned spectrum. That first auction, and the dozens that followed, supercharged mobile connectivity in the U.S. With auctions, wireless companies like Verizon put their spectrum to use broadly and efficiently, developing and investing in new networks and mobile technologies. We moved from 3G, to 4G and now 5G, with near-ubiquitous wireless connections across the nation. Enhanced mobile connectivity drove growth across many industries from healthcare to commerce, agriculture to manufacturing, education to entertainment. And America became a world leader in spectrum policy and technological innovation. As the demand for wireless services continues to skyrocket, the role of FCC auctions in fostering connectivity and spurring innovation is more critical than ever. This 30-year anniversary comes at a pivotal time - the FCC has been without auction authority for over a year, and the nation does not have a plan to make available more full power licensed spectrum in the near term. It's time for policymakers to restore the FCC's spectrum auction authority and commit to more auctions. To meet our mission and to keep up our nation's momentum toward greater connectivity, technological advancement and economic growth, spectrum auctions are imperative. #Spectrum #SpectrumAuction #FCC #Congress

I am excited to announce that Verizon is the US Black Chambers (USBC) 2024 Corporate Partner of the Year!  We are proud to partner with USBC to advance our shared goal of economic empowerment of small businesses by leveraging technology. I’m particularly appreciative of USBC’s support of Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready program, which provides small business owners with free access to online courses, one-on-one coaching, grant opportunities, and more. The program’s participants best demonstrate its impact. For example, Philadelphia food truck owner V’Esther Goode runs Boomer’s Kitchen and Catering. V’Esther launched this business to pay for her son’s college tuition. She transformed the trajectory of her business by participating in the Small Business Digital Ready program. She told us, “Now I know that this business is something that I can leave a legacy behind. My family will have something to be proud of.”  V’Esther’s story is one of the 350,000 businesses we’ve reached. So much work remains. We aim to reach 1 million small businesses in the next 5 years. We can’t wait to reach that goal with the help of USBC and other incredible partners! Many thanks to VTeamers Monica Hammond and Michele Cober, Esq. for representing Verizon so well at the USBC awards dinner. Ron Busby, Sr. and the entire USBC team, thanks for choosing Verizon for this incredible honor. We look forward to supporting more small businesses nationwide with your support! #SmallBusinesses #SmallBusiness #USBlackChambers #Verizon
