LATEST NEWS

July 7: LHP transferred to 60-day IL; RHP claimed off waivers from Cleveland, optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville
Weathers (left index finger strain) had been expected to potentially return following the All-Star break, but now will not be able to return until Aug. 8 at the earliest. He has not pitched since June 7, when he gave up a two-run homer to Cleveland's Brayan Rocchio on the 40th pitch of his start, then exited.

On July 2, manager Skip Schumaker said Weathers would be expected to be out “four to six weeks.’’

McCaughan began the season in the Marlins' organization and made one Major League relief appearance on May 4 before he was traded to the Guardians on May 9. He made two appearances for Cleveland before he was DFA'd on June 30.

July 7: RHP reinstated from 60-day IL; RHP designated for assignment
Cabrera, who had been on the injured list with right shoulder impingement since May 8, was activated on Sunday and made the start for Miami in the finale of the three-game series against the White Sox at loanDepot park.

Cabrera had been scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Jacksonville on July 6, but had been back in Miami with the Marlins since July 4. Cabrera (1-2, 7.17 ERA) made his previous start for Miami on May 7 against the host Los Angeles Dodgers, giving up four runs in two innings of work. Sunday’s start will be his sixth this season.

Andriese was recalled on July 4, when he tossed one inning of relief and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits vs. the Red Sox. He was DFA'd to open a 40-man roster spot for Cabrera.

10-day/15-day injured list

INF (lower back inflammation)
Expected return: This weekend or post-All-Star break
Lopez is completing all activities, including hitting off the machine, running and defense. He was scratched from the July 1 lineup after experiencing discomfort in his back during weightlifting, then didn't appear in either of the next two games before being placed on the injured list on July 4. LHP (left forearm flexor strain)

60-day injured list

LHP (left index finger strain)
Expected return: Aug. 8 at the earliest
Weathers, who will be evaluated for throwing in the next week, was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 7 to make space on the 40-man roster. He was pulled after giving up a two-run homer to Cleveland's Brayan Rocchio on the 40th pitch of his June 7 start.

"Not really a setback," manager Skip Schumaker said. "It was going to be four to six weeks and there's still a little bit of the swelling in there. Unfortunately, it's just wait it out and make sure everything's good to go before he starts playing catch again. It's still going to take a little bit of time." (Last updated: July 9)

RHP (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: July 11 at the earliest
Sánchez threw a bullpen session on July 8 as he builds intensity. He had thrown at least two other times.

The Marlins transferred Sánchez to the 60-day IL on June 25 based on how much time he has missed and how much more he will miss for his rehab assignment. After experiencing a big dip in velocity in his May 31 start vs. Texas, Sánchez was placed on the IL on June 2. Sánchez has had a history of major shoulder problems, including two surgeries that caused him to miss three big league seasons from 2021-23. (Last updated: July 9)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Alcantara, who traveled with the team to Houston, is beginning to increase intensity in his throwing program. He initially felt the discomfort on the 94th and final pitch of his Sept. 3 start against the Nationals and was diagnosed with a right forearm flexor strain. An MRI later revealed a right UCL sprain. He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 21 but shut himself down after experiencing forearm tightness. (Last updated: July 9)

LHP (left elbow ulnar neuritis)
Expected return: Post-All-Star break
Simpson, who underwent surgery for left elbow ulnar neuritis on April 23, has been continuing to progress with his throwing program in Jupiter, Fla. He threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on July 9.

Simpson had tossed one inning for Single-A Jupiter on April 6 after previously completing one inning and 25 pitches in an extended Spring Training game on April 2 before experiencing a setback. Simpson, who opened the season on the injured list (retroactive to March 25), didn't pitch in a Grapefruit League game after his Feb. 27 outing after he began to feel discomfort. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 20. (Last updated: July 9)

LHP (lumbar stress reaction)
Expected return: Early August
Luzardo is doing bike workouts and working on forearm and shoulder strengthening. He was placed on the 15-day IL on June 22, then was transferred to the 60-day the next day. He was scratched from his June 22 start after dealing with the back issue for a couple of weeks. (Last updated: July 9)

RHP (right UCL tear)
Expected return:
2025
Pérez continues to progress well with his rehab, according to the Marlins, after the rookie opened the season on the injured list (retroactive to March 25). Pérez had Tommy John surgery on April 8 after experiencing soreness in his bullpen session on April 2. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 4.

Pérez's recurring nail issue had forced him to exit for precautionary reasons after just 14 pitches on March 13, but the bigger issue arose the following morning when he reported feeling soreness in his right elbow. (Last updated: July 9)

OF (left hip surgery; No. 5 on the Marlins top prospect list)
Expected return: 2025
Miami's No. 5 prospect underwent season-ending left hip femoral acetabular impingement surgery on June 21. Head was sent on a rehab assignment with the Florida Complex League Marlins on June 4, but he hadn't played since June 5.

Head appeared in three games for Single-A Jupiter after joining the Marlins' organization in the Luis Arraez trade before being placed on the Minor League seven-day injured list on May 20 with an undisclosed injury. He previously missed time with an adductor strain. (Last updated: June 18)
