Cubs Recall of Alexander Canario From Triple-A Iowa; Place OF Cody Bellinger on 10-day Injured List

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled outfielder Alexander Canario from Triple-A Iowa and placed outfielder Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list with a left middle finger fracture.

Canario, 24, is hitting .238 with 16 home runs and 43 RBI in 59 games with Iowa. Seven of his 16 home runs have come since June 8—the same night he hit two home runs. Canario also played 13 games for the Cubs this season, hitting .273 with one home run and two RBI. He made his major league debut last season with the Cubs on September 6 and in 19 total major league games, he is hitting .282 with two home runs and eight RBI.

Bellinger, who turns 29 on Saturday, is hitting .269 with nine home runs and 37 RBI for the Cubs in 79 games this season. Over his last 20 games (since June 18), Bellinger is hitting .303 (23-for-76) with five RBI.

The Cubs play at Baltimore tonight at 5:35 p.m. CT in a game that can be seen on the Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score.
