Job Overview

This position:

  • Performs technical accounting work for multiple funding types.
  • Develops and manages documents for submission into the state accounting systems (SABHRS Financials and H.R.) and related systems.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reconciles accounts.
  • Develops, implements, and analyzes budgets, maintains files and documentation.
  • Works closely with the Accounting and Payroll Specialist and the Budget Analyst to ensure efficient operation of the Legislative Branch accounting functions.
  • Reports to the Financial Director.
  • Is non-partisan.

Qualifications

The Senior Accountant must possess:

  • Substantial knowledge of technical bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Substantial knowledge of accounting software systems and the Statewide Accounting, Budgeting and Human Resources System (SABHRS Financials and HR modules).
  • Substantial knowledge of account reconciliation methods and techniques.
  • Substantial knowledge of computers including spreadsheet, database, accounting, and word processing programs.
  • Basic knowledge of the state budget development process.
  • Basic knowledge of payroll processing methods and techniques.
  • The position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field and a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible, relevant work experience.
  • State governmental accounting experience preferred.
  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis A training assignment may be considered for this postiion.
