New data shows the betting odds for a golf match between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden after the two sparred over the sport during the presidential debate on Thursday.
On Friday, BetOnline released odds for which candidate could shoot the lowest score in a "head-to-head golf round." The odds show that Trump is favored to win the hypothetical match with odds of -3300, or 1/33. These odds mean that you'd have to bet $330 in order to win $10, with a total payout of $340.
The online betting company has Biden's odds for the hypothetical matchup listed at +1200 or 12/1, meaning that if you bet $10, you'd win $120, with a total payout of $130.
BetOnline also has odds for a possible "long drive contest" between Biden and Trump, with the former president again being favored. BetOnline gives Trump -2500 or 1/25 odds, compared to Biden, who received +1000 or 10/1 odds.
Newsweek reached out to Biden's campaign and Trump's spokesperson via email for comment.
On June 27, Biden and Trump met in Atlanta for their first presidential debate in this election cycle. Polls showed the Democratic incumbent and his Republican opponent locked in a close race, with a little more than four months to go before the election. During the TV clash, the two candidates sparred over issues such as the economy, the Israel-Hamas war, immigration, and abortion.
Biden, 81, and Donald Trump, 78, also faced age-related questions from CNN's moderators, Dana Bash and Jake Tapper.
During the debate, Trump began to speak about his fitness and golf, saying, "I just won two club championships—not even senior, two regular club championships. To do that, you have to be quite smart, and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way. And I do it. He doesn't do it. He can't hit a ball 50 yards. He challenged me to a golf match; he can't hit a ball 50 yards."
In response, Biden said he'd be happy to "have a driving contest" with Trump and added that "I got my handicap when I was vice president down to a six. By the way, I told you before, I'm happy to play golf with you if you carry your own bag. Think you can do it?"
Trump then disputed Biden's claims saying "That's the biggest lie—that he was a six handicap—of all...I've seen your swing. I know your swing. Let's not act like children."
On X, formerly Twitter, Donald Trump Jr. called for a match between the two.
"Let's make this golf match happen STAT!!!!" Trump Jr. wrote. "I'll bet everything I have on it on my father. Any takers after watching this tonight??? Didn't think so!!!"
