Deftones are most popular metal band during sex, while Nine Inch Nails rank top among BDSM enthusiasts, says study

Others listed included Slipknot and System of A Down

Deftones are the most popular metal band to listen to during sex, according to a new study.

The study was carried out by ZipHealth, which surveyed over 1,000 Americans to find out what listening habits they may have in the bedroom. Overall, it was found that 47 per cent of respondents said that they regularly listen to music during sex, and metal band Deftones were found to be one of the most popular choices.

In addition to asking people as part of a survey, ZipHealth also analysed playlists across Spotify which contained the words “sex”, having sex”, “making love”, “freaky”, “BDSM” and “unprotected sex” in the title.

While the findings showed that it was largely hip-hop and rap that dominated the most popular choices, the Chino Moreno-led band were placed in the Number Three spot overall, just behind The Weeknd, who topped the list, and Kanye West, who came in at second place.

In fact, Deftones were the only band from a hard rock or metal category to be featured in the Top 10 overall acts. Others making the top of the list included Kendrick Lamar, Drake and Lana Del Rey.

The other metal acts that featured lower down in the rankings included Slipknot, who were the second most popular metal band, and System Of A Down, who came in third.

When it came to BDSM, the most popular artist found in the study was Nine Inch Nails, who also had the highest ranking BDSM song: 1994 hit ‘Closer’.

Elsewhere in the study, it was shown that the top song overall across all of the bedroom playlists was ‘Super Freaky Girl’ by Nicky Minaj.

It also showed that there was a correlation between the genre of music chosen and the amount of time spent under the sheets. For those listening to hip-hop, the average session lasted 31.5 minutes, whereas EDM brought in the shortest average of 27.2 minutes.

Those who carried out the study also found that some benefits can be found by listening to music during sex: “People who said they listened to music during sex were generally more satisfied with their sex lives and had sex more often than those who didn’t.”

It also highlighted that listening to music helped reduce sexual performance anxiety.

In other Deftones news, frontman Chino Moreno recently confirmed that the band are nearly done with their forthcoming album as he has been recording the final vocal tracks.

It will be the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Ohms’, which NME gave a five-star review: “One imagines that the first day back in the studio with Terry Date might have been painful. It might have been cathartic. But what it seems to have done is give the band an attuned ear to the world. A platform to express rage they’ve never done before and to further solidify their status as the most interesting heavy metal band in the world.”

The band are also set to play numerous festival slots across the summer, including a slot at Lollapalooza on August 3. To top it off, they have a co-headline show with another of the top-ranked metal bands in the study, System Of A Down. The two will perform at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on August 17.
