Ipswich Town and Hull City are now engaged in active negotiations over the transfer of Jacob Greaves, although an agreement is yet to be reached.

Ipswich started discussions on a potential fee around the £10million mark but that is known to be significantly below Hull’s expectations at this stage.

Senior sources at Hull — who didn’t want to be named to protect relationships — have highlighted to The Athletic that talks are continuing with Ipswich, that there are other interested clubs and they have not capped their valuation of the player.

The 23-year-old — who joined Hull’s youth system in 2008 — is regarded as a key player in their own bid to follow in the footsteps of Ipswich and achieve promotion to the Premier League.

The central defender has been a regular in Hull’s defence across the past four seasons, making 177 first-team appearances for the club.

Greaves was named in the the Championship Team of the Season for 2023–24 and was voted Hull City’s Player of the Year for the same season, with a number of clubs monitoring his future.

Hull's Greaves: 'I watched us as a fan in the Premier League - that's what we're aiming for'

The Athletic reported earlier this week that Ipswich were monitoring a move for the central defender and Panathaniokos striker Fotis Ioannidis, for whom no formal approach has yet been made.

Ipswich are preparing for their first season back in the Premier League since 2001-02, having secured back-to-back promotions in League One and the Championship.

Hull finished seventh in the Championship this season, missing out on a promotion play-off place by just one spot.
