Esperanza junior Madi Lam, an All-County selection in girls flag football and girls basketball during the 2023-24 school year, has enrolled at Santa Margarita, Eagles flag football coach Brad Finneran confirmed on Friday.

As a quarterback in flag football last fall, Lam passed for 5,584 yards and 91 touchdowns to lead the Aztecs to a 25-0 record. She also had 13 interceptions on defense and was selected first-team All-County.

In basketball, Lam averaged 18.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.9 steals en route to being selected second-team All-County.

Esperanza went 25-5 and lost to Lynwood in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

Lam was named Crestview League MVP in girls flag football and basketball.

“We just lost (our) Patrick Mahomes,” said Esperanza’s Jimmy Valverde, who coaches both girls flag and basketball. “How do you replace that?”

“We’re just going to have to pull together and be as strong as we can be,” the coach added. “We’ll go out and give everything we got.”

The girls flag football season started in Orange County on Monday.
