UPDATED:

Ten Anaheim businesses were destroyed by a fire that broke out in a commercial complex early Wednesday morning, Aug. 14, authorities said.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., authorities responded to a blaze on the 1200 block of South State College Boulevard, near Ball Road.

“The building was fully engulfed,” said police Sgt. Matt Sutter, who is also a spokesman for Anaheim Fire & Rescue.  “Unfortunately, all 10 businesses are lost.”

The businesses destroyed: a Subway, Tummy Stuffer, Taqueria El Poblano, Primo Tacos, Star Liquor, Ball Road Express (a Chinese restaurant), Purefine Kitchen & Bath, Sequential Bath, Los Angeles Vanity, and an adult entertainment venue, Sahara Theatre.

No one was in the building when the fire began, Sutter said.

It was unclear where the fire started.

The smell of smoke wafted along nearby streets. Police deployed an accelerant-detection K-9 to search the area for clues as crews continued to work on the fire, which was contained but still burning early Wednesday evening.

The fire had already started when 62-year-old Cindy Lee, a clerk at the Shell gas station across from the plaza, clocked into work. She was worried the blaze would spread to the station.

“I’m glad it wasn’t windy,” she said. “If it was windy, it would have been a big problem.”
