Maurie Watman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away from a tragic accident on August 15, 2024. He was 86 years old. Maurie was born on January 13, 1938, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to William and Elizabeth Watman, the youngest of four siblings: Emma, Zelda, and Harold Watman.At 18, Maurie proudly enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he traveled the world, including a memorable time in Okinawa. After his service, he moved to Miami, Florida, where he worked for a time as a water skiing instructor. Eventually, he made his way to Southern California, a place he would grow to love deeply and call home for the rest of his life. There he found work as an electrician, a trade he learned from his Uncle Al. In 1975, he married the love of his life, Margaret, and together they raised their son, Aron, who was born in 1978. In the early 1980’s, Maurie established Watman Electric, his own electrical contracting business, which became a testament to his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. He retired from the business in 2021.Maurie was known for his legendary sense of humor and his deep love for his family. His devotion to his wife, Margaret, and his close bond with his son, Aron, were central to his life. He also took immense pride in his three grandchildren, Vivian (12), Jane (10), and Conrad (7), and all his nieces and nephews. Maurie’s passions extended beyond his work and family. He had a deep love for sushi and writing both fiction and poetry. Music was also a significant part of his life, especially classic rock bands like the Moody Blues and Pink Floyd. The ocean held a special place in Maurie’s heart. He loved sailing the coast of Southern California and took several voyages to Santa Catalina Island throughout his life.Maurie’s love for Southern California was profound, and he often spoke of never wanting to leave the place that brought him so much joy. His passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his warmth, compassion, wit, and the love he shared so generously.Maurie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret; his son, Aron; daughter-in-law, Molly; and his three grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and a large circle of friends who will miss him dearly.
