The mansion of Oklahoma native Will Rogers, Hollywood’s highest-paid 1930s actor and esteemed vaudevillian actor, just sold for $14 million in July in Los Angeles.

Rogers was born on Nov. 4, 1879, in what would soon become Oologah, Oklahoma. Roger’s acting career spans 50 silent films, 21 “talkies” and he penned over 4,000 syndicated newspaper columns. Rogers died in 1935 when his two-man plane crashed in Alaska.

The L.A. equestrian estate sold for $14.044 million, though it was listed for $14.995 million. The mansion is in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood on L.A.’s westside. It was built specifically for Rogers in 1935.

Rogers wasn’t the only celebrity to call the mansion home as Michelle Pfieffer, one of the highest-paid actresses in the 1990s, also owned the estate in the 1980s. Other famous actors have lived in the neighborhood including director Steven Spielberg, and actors Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Whoopi Goldberg and Rita Wilson.

At 3.3 acres, the property boasts seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms throughout its five separate structures: the main house, staff house, pool house, a brand-new guest house and a home gym, which used to be stables for Roger’s horses.

In some parts of the 6,250-square-foot main house, walls of glass overlook the garden and provide natural light while the rustic country kitchen provides a more intimate setting.

Away from the kitchen and garden you can also find a two-level library and an expansive primary suite with a spa-inspired bathroom and an attached patio.

Though the stables have been remodeled, the property still has park-like grounds for the equestrian or nature lover with paths through the garden.
