When Oklahoma-made "Twisters" hits theaters this week, several moviegoers aim to catch the film in the most immersive setting available by viewing it in a 4DX theater.

"Twisters" is billed as a current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster "Twister," which also was filmed in Oklahoma, and stars Golden Globe nominees Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell as opposing forces who come together to try to predict — and possibly tame — the immense power of tornadoes. It's directed by Lee Isaac Chung, who filmed his Academy Award-winning semi-autobiographical immigrant drama "Minari" in the Tulsa area in 2019.

Here's what to know about 4D and 4DX theaters showing "Twisters":

What is 4D?

4D is an immersive format that can include motion-enabled chairs, flashing lights, fog, wind and scents to place the viewer within the film's setting and events.
