Interior design news & notes: Lights; Portland Bazaar lowdown; pop-up shops; a Florida makeover; and good bathrooms

LIGHTING:

Is it just me, or has the selection of lighting really come on in the last few years?

THE PORTLAND BAZAAR:

Word from Bazaar co-founder and worker-bee Grace Bonney – who also just happens to be the brains behind

– is that the

was a huge, huge success. Bonney says they had 8,000 people through the door of Sandbox Studio. In addition, several of the vendors sold out of their wares the first day. By Sunday nearly all the vendors reported fantastic sales. Wow. As my co-worker and culture critic Kristi Turnquist noted, seems the buy locally movement has really caught on. I did not get to

big show at the Convention Center. Anyone know how the results of that fair?

FINAL DAYS:

Speaking of local, don't forget to patronize the local pop-up shops that are underway.

, the

,

and

. These temporary stores are truly a treat and go away after the holidays.

FLORIDA FAB:

The

a 1957 mid-century modern residence in Venice, Florida, was designed by architect Victor Lundy and recently refurbished top to bottom by Rich and Maxine Corbett of Richlin Interiors in nearby Naples. Stunning.

BATH AND BEYOND:

Each of

measures were taken. From storage to lighting to easy-to-clean surfaces, bathrooms need to be both beautiful and user-friendly.
