As you headed down Figueroa near Olympic Blvd in these times, there was no Staples Center, no LA Live, nothing resembling what some call a "Times Square West." They didn't even call the neighborhood "South Park" back then. The original 1971 segment of the LA Convention Center, just out of the picture, was the only thing resembling new development in the immediate area.
