In October 1943, at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, an experiment was carried out on the USS Eldridge by the Navy in an attempt to render it invisible to radar. The story ( unconfirmed by the US Navy ) goes that the ship 'actually' disappeared from view. Not only this but it re-appeared several hundred miles away in Virginia. After a few minutes, the ship again disappeared and re-appeared back in Philadelphia. The Navy continues to deny the story to this day.
