Sena’s Mid-Century Nursery

Lifestyle blogger Sena Nelson recently moved to England with her husband and four children after several years of living in Hawaii. She had to rethink her nursery because the space was intended to be an office and didn’t have a closet. In order to create a functional room while being mindful of how much she was putting in it, she had to find pieces that made it feel bigger.

“I aimed for the room to be simple. I want to have plenty of time to play together and be together without the constant cleanup.”

Nelson loves the warmth of acorn wood and sleek design of Pottery Barn Kids’ Mid-Century Nursery Collection. Sustainability is also important to her family and is a key reason she chose FSC® certified furniture. She wanted to design a nursery that was an extension of her style so she could create a cohesive look throughout her home.

Nelson selected pieces that she could mix and match in various rooms and added toys, books and bedding to give the space a personal touch. She aimed for a simple, clutter-free design aesthetic. Extra storage with plenty of drawers and hanging space cleared the floor, and an easy-care wool rug provided a comfy place for her kids to play together.

“I love neutral and timeless pieces. If I incorporate color, it’s always an earth tone. I do this for ease of coordinating the house from room to room and creating flow and cohesion throughout.”
