The Inlandia Institute will celebrate the publication of two new poetry books at an event 4-6 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Community Room of the Riverside Main Library, 3900 Mission Inn Ave.

The books are “How to Know You’re Dreaming When You’re Dreaming, Lesson One” by Angelica Maria Barraza Tran of Redlands, winner of Inlandia’s 2021 national Hillary Gravendyk Prize; and “Our Lady of Perpetual Desert” by Alexandra Martinez of Yucca Valley, winner of the 2021 regional Hillary Gravendyk Prize.

The event will include poetry readings and refreshments provided by Tio’s Tacos, according to a news release.

Angelica Maria Barraza Tran is pursuing a doctorate in English from UCR where she studies the intersections of race, gender and experimental literary forms. She is the author of the chapbook “Dreams the Water Gave Me” (2018) and her work has appeared in The Journal of Critical Latina Feminism and Jacket2.

Alexandra Martinez works for the San Bernardino County Library, and her essays, poetry, music reviews and interviews have been published in various online and print outlets.
