A woman was fatally struck Saturday evening in a hit-and-run in an industrial area of Riverside, police said.

The crash happened around 11:20 p.m. at Kansas Avenue and Roberta Street, where a female pedestrian was found lying in the middle of the road, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The pedestrian was believed to be in the intersection when she was struck by a vehicle headed southbound on Kansas Avenue. The driver fled, according to a preliminary investigation.

It is unclear if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
