Full Circle Players, a Riverside-based theater company, will present its free Shakespeare in the Park shows this summer in two parks in Riverside and in Menifee, Lake Perris and Redlands.
This summer’s Shakespeare in the Park features Shakespeare’s final play, “The Tempest,” directed by Wendi Johnson, plus “La Mujer Dormida,” an Aztec legend adapted and directed by Steve Llamas.
Performances are July 11, 12 and 13 at California Citrus State Historic Park, 9400 Dufferin Ave., Riverside; July 19 and 20 at the Asistencia, 26930 Barton Road, Redlands; July 26 at the Sun City Civic Association, 26850 Sun City Blvd., Menifee; July 27 at Lake Perris State Recreation Area in Perris; and Aug. 1 and 2 at Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd., Riverside.
At each site, there will be a pre-show talk at 6:30 p.m., followed by “La Mujer Dormida” at 7 p.m. and “The Tempest” at 7:30 p.m. There will be an ASL interpreter at the July 11 performance at California Citrus State Historic Park.
Admission to all performances is free, and those attending may bring picnics. There is a $7 parking fee at the California Citrus State Historic Park.
“Theater and Shakespeare is for everyone,” Wendi Johnson, artistic director of Full Circle Players, said in a news release. “We never want the price of a ticket to keep a community member from seeing great theater, so we bring the theater into the communities for equity in access.
“This is an accessible, family-friendly version of ‘The Tempest’ using Shakespeare’s language. The cast is a diverse and brilliantly talented group of artists excited to tell this story of the power of forgiveness over revenge,” Johnson said.
In the cast of “The Tempest” are Rebecca Reber as Prospera, Celina Rong as Ariel, Ivan Valencia as Caliban, Jason Crewse as Antonio, Teri Pope as Alonsa, Sadaf Sharif as Trinculo/Gonzalo, Julian Carrasco as Stephano/Sebastian, Maya De La Torre as Miranda and Aaron Martinez as Ferdinand.
Several cast members of “The Tempest” will also perform in “La Mujer Dormida.”
