Southern California courthouses were struggling Friday morning, July 19, in the wake of the global tech outage.

“We are experiencing a technical issue with our systems today, which may cause delays in our work and service to the public,” said Kostas Kalaitzidis, the spokesman for Orange County Superior Court. “We are working through them to reestablish full service.”

In Orange County, jury trials and deliberations generally do not occur on Fridays, so the judges focused on other matters.

In-person hearings moved forward at the main Santa Ana courthouse. As normal, judges heard routine pretrial and scheduled sentencing hearings, even as the outage impacted their systems.

Los Angeles County Superior Court released a statement:

“The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is experiencing significant system-wide connectivity issues that are impacting the court’s ability to conduct business,” it said. “Matters where parties were scheduled to appear remotely today, July 19, will be continued and parties notified of a new date.

“The court is rapidly working to reestablish connectivity,” the statement said.

By early afternoon, Orange County’s court systems were recovering.
