Sabrina Carpenter Says She Has Chappell Roan’s Songs on ‘Loopty Loop’
It feels like Sabrina Carpenter is taking over the world. She’s becoming a fashion inspo for many, she’s sharing her silliness online, and she’s got quite the taste when it comes to music. To pair with her Rolling Stone profile, Carpenter shares some of her favorite things right now in a new video.
When it comes to her taste, Carpenter tells Rolling Stone she loves things that are “classic” but also “modern” and with a touch of humor. “I think my taste is a bit unpredictable sometimes,” she says.
As for her inspiration on “Espresso” specifically, Carpenter said she felt like her song “Espresso” was modern but with touches of “those coffee shop, very saturated photos of women with big smiles and very corny phrases on it… I combined that with my everyday taste as well.”
When it comes to her personal style, Carpenter says she knows she likes what she’s wearing when “I walk a little taller or my posture is better,” she says. “I’m just a happier person in something I feel really good in. My twenties are just about experimenting.”
“Lord knows I’ve worn some really tragic things on red carpets so it’s all about growth,” she adds.
Carpenter shares she has a “terrible addiction” to yerba mate and says she’s drinking limoncello spritzes this summer. Oh, and if she ever taught an Intro to Pop class, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera’s songs would all be in the lesson plans.
“Those were some of the first pop songs I ever heard and they raised me when I was five and helped me find my own version of that,” Carpenter says. “This would be a really long course. I should never teach a course.”
Carpenter says she’s also “learning to disconnect” from the internet a little more, but appreciates having a deep understanding of internet culture. “I don’t want to get to grandma status where I can’t hang with the kids or whatever,” she says. “This is so self-promo right now but the ‘me espresso’ memes are very fun to look at. Love that for me!”
As for what’s on Carpenter’s playlist, she says she’s listening to her bestie Amber Mark who “has the voice of an angel.”
“Because we’re so close we play music for each other,” she says. “She’s so incredibly talented.” Carpenter also listens to her labelmate Chappell Roan “all the time” and has her new single “Good Luck, Babe” on “loopty loop.” Also on repeat is Matt Maltese, whom she says has “some of the most funny, tragic songwriting.”
“I love when artists write sad songs and they have a sense of humor to them because it’s just up my alley,” she adds.
As for comedy faves, Carpenter chooses Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, and Nathan Fielder. “People that are funny are my cup… of espresso,” she says. “I’ve never had tea! Just espresso.”
