What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman's welcome return to rom-com territory, A Family Affair squabbles with its own tonality too much to elevate its litany of clichés.

Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It makes no emotional sense whatsoever. Jul 13, 2024 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) The movie is what it is. It’s not going to blow your mind, change your perspective on life or inspire you to rewatch it. But in the moment? It’s fine. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday The actors give it their all, but it's a movie you've seen a million times before. Rated: 2/4 Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Nicholas Bell Fish Jelly Films (YouTube) Although it's playing with some offbeat elements, a lack of discernible interiority robs this bizarre rom-com oddity of maintaining our interests or attention. Rated: 2/5 Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Louisa Moore Screen Zealots A mediocre romantic comedy with no depth nor substance, this one screams half-hearted and shallow. Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Emma Vine Loud and Clear Reviews A Family Affair invites viewers into a lavish world and a fantastical romance that one can only dream of. Yet it’s funny, wildly entertaining, and all in good fun. Rated: 3/5 Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Phil P I felt personally insulted by this movie. Do the creators of this movie really think people are dim-witted enough to be entertained by this nonsense? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Alisha V A couple of funny scenes but overall poorly written and quite odd. Not worth the watch at all and I’m sorry but as a 25 year old woman, I don’t appreciate the 24 year old girl acting/living like a teenager the whole film! If you wanted her to act like that just make her age younger haha Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review A C Poor storyline and plot, and average acting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review Sharon S A Fluffy rom-com with great actors who are a bit let down by a not stellar script and Nicole's make up artist needs to learn more isn't better! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/28/24 Full Review Alaina M Terrible movie. Don’t bother. No emotional intelligence Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Michael A Come on y’al, get a sense of humor. This is Hollywood gold. Zach Ephron playing an egomaniac actor is perfect casting. The movie just works, Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
