Two years ago, retired CIA agent Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) used his "particular set of skills" to rescue his daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace), from kidnappers. Since then, Kim has been learning self-defense from her father, and Bryan has been on a personal mission to reunite with his ex-wife (Famke Janssen). In Istanbul, Bryan and his family cross paths with Murad (Rade Serbedzija), whose son died at Bryan's hand during Kim's rescue. Murad wants revenge, and he'll stop at nothing to get it.

Critics Consensus

Taken 2 is largely bereft of the kinetic thrills -- and surprises -- that made the original a hit.

Tim Grierson Deadspin "Taken 2" is really, really goofy -- it's even goofier because it thinks it's about the futility of vengeance -- but Liam Neeson almost makes you buy it. Feb 12, 2013 Full Review Richard Roeper Richard Roeper.com A sloppy, lazy, unintentionally laughable sequel. Rated: .5/5 Oct 14, 2012 Full Review Andrew O'Hehir Salon.com A meta-American movie, a Godardian spoof of the whole genre, an attempt to see how stupid and insulting a motion picture can be and still be a big hit. Oct 7, 2012 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Besson and Megaton have delivered a sequel that fails in every way to live up to its predecessor. Rated: 1/4 Sep 23, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Unfortunately this movie just gives us more of the same but at a much lower and lazier production level. matthew C Exvitrment, humour and really well paced. Great movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Audience Member Okay sequel definitely worse than the first one Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Rami A While it may not be as good as the first, it's definitely a wild ride. I was hooked during the first half; however, with the second half, it slowly started feeling like the ideas were running out. It may hurt the film, but it doesn't detract from the experience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review SR C Usually a sequel does not measure up to the original, but this one does. I absolutely adore Liam Neeson, such a "normal guy with a special skill set". However, I think they have used up this storyline so let's hope they don't attempt a "Taken 3". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Gerald H subpar. boring. no chemistry. hard to swallow that an almost 30 year old maggie grace plays a shy teenager who needs driving lessons with her father. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Lou T Following up a few years after the ending of the first, Taken 2 reunites the Mills family for a new misadventure. Putting Neeson in the hot seat, the story adds an interesting element by making Bryan one of the characters in trouble. Flipping the dynamic, the story takes some fun twists and turns amidst the fast paced action. Unfortunately, the action sequences are much harder to watch than the original, with constant shaky cam and nonstop cutting from camera to camera. While this is an action movie staple, it is used to a near unbearable degree in this film and becomes near headache inducing by the end. While it is fun, it's very similar to the original and fails in areas that the first succeeded. Taken 2 is a fast and enjoyable ride, but don't expect anything to be taken up a notch for the franchise. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
