In the History of Incian Music, references of Rudra Veena are found from pre-vedie era. Though, in modern times the instrument has lost is premier status in Indian Music, knowledge of Veena playin would be the most beneficial for any string instrumentalist. Hence, it is need of the hour to preserve, promote & propagate this ancient instrument. With this view in mind, the Department of Music proposes to institute a one year Certificate course in Rudra Veena from the academic year 2008-09. The details & proposed syllabus of the said course are as follows. 0.5744 Eligibility - A candidate for being el: ible for Certificate course in Rudra Veena, must have passed the H.S.C. (Std. XII) examination conducted by the Maharashtra State board of Secondary education or an examination, of another University or body recognised as equivalent thereto, The candidate's admission to the course will be subject to his passing an audition test conducted by the Head of the Institute. Preference would be given to the candidates who have some experience in playing string instruments like Sitar, Sarod, Sarangi, Rudra Veena and Violin.
