T H E BIBLE
- A Practical Guide from Jehovah
1 One of Gods marvelous gifts
to m ankind has been his W ord
of tru th , the Bible. I t is tru ly a
practical guide by which one comes
to know God and to be guided by
him as one follows th e teachings
of th a t W ord. B ut how m any of
m ankind know this and appreciate
th e value of Gods W ord in th eir
lives? Really, very few. Y et the
psalm ist said of Gods W ord th a t it
is a lam p to ones foot an d a light
to ones roadw ay.Ps. 119:105.
2 In th e sp irit of neighbor love,
w hat can we do to help others
benefit from the wisdom of God as
found in the Bible? For one thing,
we heed to be aw are of some of
the questions th a t m ight be raised
by those not knowing about Gods
Word- or who doubt the value of
such W ord in th e ir lives.
HOW PRACTICAL FOR MANKIND?
* As C hristians we know th a t
th e Bible does n ot m ake th e claim
th a t such things as riches, b etter
h ealth an d no problem s in life will
be the lot of those who heed its
advice. W e know th a t th e Bible is
not a book th a t takes one into a
dream w orld an d aw ay from real
ity. I t is not m ean t to be a book
w ith a philosophical approach to
life th a t refuses to face facts. W h at
th e Bible does do is face life as it
is. T hen, it goes a step beyond
th a t and sets forth guidelines th a t
will assist one in handling the
problem s of life. T his, in m any
cases, results in m uch im provem ent
in ones lot in life, bringing a large
m easure of happiness now, but,
more im portantly, th e prom ise of
life u n d er th e very conditions for
which m ankind everywhere y earns
a tim e of peace, genuine love
an d concern for ones fellowman
u n d er th e Kingdom rule of this
earth by C hrist Jesus, Gods Son.
5 T h e Bible does n ot claim to
m ake o u r lives problem -free. N ever
theless, in living by its guidelines
a person can find his life im proved

To Care Is to Share
1 T he apostle P au l said, B u t I
do all things for the sake of th e
good news, th a t I m ay become a
sharer of it w ith others. (1 Cor.
9:23) In verse 19, P au l shows to
w hat extent he was willing to go in
order to do his p a rt in extending
the good news to others. H e says:
For, though I am free from a ll
persons, I have m ade myself the
slave to all, th a t I m ay gain the
most persons. In verse 22 h e con
tinues, T o th e weak I became
weak, th a t I might gain th e weak.
I have become ail things to people
of all sorts, th a t I m ight by all
m eans save some.

Victorious Faith"

D
tite? Does it also stir up fond memories
for many of you who have been privileged to
attend previous international conventions?
How faith-strengthening it will be to join
with our brothers from other lands at one of
the 24 large conventions arranged for the
continental United States and Canada. You
will be truly happy th a t you have put forth
the effort to be there all five days for the
bountiful Scriptural instruction and guidance
in serving Jehovah faithfully in the days
ahead.
Past international conventions have often
had outstanding special features, and this one
will be no exception! There will be no morn
ing session on Friday. Instead, the morning
will be devoted to a unique field service ar
rangement throughout the convention city.
All are urged to share in this.
So, leave no stone unturned in your efforts
personally to attend the 1978 Victorious
Faith International Convention. You will
reap rich rewards for doing so. The following
information is being provided to assist you
to benefit fully from the convention.
As
in the case of those with opposing mates, the
Bible shows that even opposers can be won to
the truth without a word. How? By our good
conduct of which they are eyewitnesses.
(1 Pet. 2:12; 3:1, 2) Many favorable reports
result from the good conduct of Jehovahs
people at conventions. Some have been so
impressed by what takes place that they have
embraced the truth. (1 Cor. 14:23-25) What
an impelling reason for us to watch carefully
what we say and do!Phil. 2:1-4; John

selves while they were here. Good manners
and actions motivated by love also go a long
way in enhancing the enjoyment of the con
vention for everyone in attendance. And,
above all, such faithful conduct honors our
loving heavenly Father, Jehovah, bringing
his smile of approval upon us.Prov. 27:11;

our share in th e vital work of pro
claim ing th e good news and m ak

this is to express our love for J e
hovah God and our fellowmen!
A lthough pioneering m ay require
m aking adjustm ents in ones daily
life, an d it certainly calls for h ard
work, m any who are engaging _in
this service have experienced rich
blessings. F o r example, a brother
w ith a business was able to work
out a program th a t enabled him to
auxiliary pioneer for six out of th e
last twelve m onths. W h a t w ere the
results? H e enjoyed conducting as
m any as seven Bible studies.
T hough it has not been easy with
a full work load, even some m em
bers of B ethel fam ilies have been
able to arran ge to be auxiliary pio
neers. In the Philippines, 16 m em
bers of the B ethel fam ily were able
to pioneer in one m onth an d en
joyed conducting 41 Bible studies.
Also we have h eard fine experiences
from m em bers of the B r o o k l y n
B ethel family who have shared in
th e auxiliary pioneer work. One
brother told of placing hundreds
of m agazines. How did he do it?
H e took advantage of every op

w here sm all groups w ere gathered.
W e hope th a t you, too, will
continue to th in k about how you
m ight increase your share in de

efforts to be whole-souled in your

Convention News
The Victorious F a ith International
Conventions got off to a good sta rt in
Ju n e with a total attendance of 600,489
lo r the public lecture at 14 conventions.
T here were 3.856 baptized. A t Montre
al, in Canada, Ju ly 5-9, the peak at
tendance was 80,008, and 831 w ere bap
tized.
The convention program was enthu
siastically received. The overall spiri
tual provision has been, described as
m ost faith strengthening. M any ex
pressed appreciation for the w ay field
service was stressed. I t is a call to
action. observed one brother. Another
rem arked: I t has really gotten to the
hearts of the brothers. We will see . . .
a more serious view of serviceand
this is the tim e for it.
OH F rid a y m orning thousands shared
in field activity, using the special kits,
which a ttracted m uch attention. One
re p o rt said: People knew Jehovahs
W itnesses were in tow n. I t was excit
ing to participate in the well-organized
cam paign. Kingdom publishers ap
peared like a sw arm of locusts as they
covered residential territo ry , did stre et
w ork and called on persons in offices
and stores. In several places, news re
porters accompanied brothers in the
door-to-door activity, and they wrote
interesting reports.
And w hat about th e conduct of the
conventioners ? Tim e and again b roth
ers were im pressed w ith the attentive
ness of the audiences, the way families
stayed together and the fine' behavior
of children. Com pared w ith p a s t' as
semblies. few er persons worked during
sessions and there was less m illing
around. All this contributed toward the
orderliness of the conventions. One
thing that, im oressed m e, an elder
said, "w as the lack of movement and
restless running around. Everybody
was sittin g and listening. I t was a real
joy to be there and concentrate on the
outstanding program . Outsiders, in
cluding hotel m anageis and stadium
personnel, commented on the orderly
way conventioners conducted them
selves.
So m any reports being received tell
about the beneiits resulting from ap
plying the counsel and rem inders given
prior to the conventions. Surely, this
pleases Jehovah. T his is evident "by the
outpouring of his rich blessings. May
we all continue to m aintain our con
duct fine among the nations, as we
now press ahead w ith the same spirit
in the field service as was shown a t the
international conventions.1 Pet. 2:12.

(Contd )
ings from th e h an d of Jehovah.
In these thrilling days before th e

w hat a joy it is to receive Jehovahs

every effort to try to be like him
by giving of ourselves in a full

1 T h e book study conductor hold
th e key position for m aking the

of greatest benefit to all attending.
As a conductor, have you thorough

you ask m eaningful auxiliary ques

all participate, including the chil

by p u ttin g him on th e spot? T h e
conductor should be interested in
th e sp iritu al developm ent of all in
the group an d th a t they become
skillful in handling the word of
the tru th arig h t. (2 Tim . 2:15)
He should endeavor to be well ac
quainted w ith all who are assigned
to th e group an d m ake it a p rac
tice to visit them in th eir homes.
W here i t is n ot possible for the
book study location also to be a
m eeting place for field service, the
conductor will be sure th a t a r
rangem ents are m ade for his group
to m eet for service each week a t

them. T h e publishers also benefit
the m ost w hen th e conductor makes
positive appointm ents to work in
service w ith each one on a regular
basis.
8 A re some groups getting to

group so small th a t it is discourag
ing to th e few who atten d regular
ly? Congregation elders will w ant
to be alert, in such cases, to m ake
w hatever adjustm ents are needed.
In some areas it has proven bene
ficial to ro tate th e locations for
the stu d y if th ere a re additional
homes available. In this w ay a
burden is not placed on someone
if he has had th e study in his
home for m any years an d would
be h ap p y for someone else to be
the host for a tim e. I t is a real
privilege to have one of th e book
studies in our hom e an d w herever
circum stances allow, we should be
eager for th e opportunity. (Prov.
3:9) A t such locations w here the
householder is pleased to have the
study in his home an d th e location
is quite suitable, a change would
not be necessary if no oth er factors
dictate th a t th e study be moved.
