answer to each of the questions from 36 to 42.

One of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Great Pyramid of Giza was a monument
of wisdom and prophecy built as a tomb for Pharaoh Cheops in 2720 B.C. Despite its antiquity,
certain aspects of its construction make it one of the truly wonders of the world. The thirteen-acre
structure near the Nile river is a solid mass of stone blocks covered with limestone. Inside are a
number of hidden passageways and the burial chamber of the Pharaoh. It is the largest single
structure in the world. The four sides of the pyramid are aligned almost exactly on true north, south,
east and west - an incredible engineering feat. The ancient Egyptians were sun worshippers and
great astronomers, so computations for the Great Pyramid were based on astronomical observations.
Explorations and detailed examinations of the base of the structure reveal many intersecting
lines. Further scientific study indicates that these represent a type of timeline of events – past,
present and future. Many of the events have been interpreted and found to coincide with known
facts of the past. Others are prophesied for future generations and are currently under
investigation. Many believe that pyramids have supernatural powers and this one is no exception.
Some researchers even associate it with extraterrestrial beings of ancient past. Was this
superstructure made by ordinary beings, or one built by a race far superior to any known today?

Question 36: What has research of the base revealed?

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct
answer to each of the questions for 43 to 50.

Since water is the basis of life, composing the greater part of the tissues of all living things,
the crucial problem of desert animals is to survive in a world where sources of flowing water are
rare. And since man’s inexorable necessity is to absorb large quantities of water at frequent intervals,
he can scarcely comprehend that many creatures of the desert pass their entire lives without a single
drop.
Uncompromising as it is, the desert has not eliminated life but only those forms unable to
withstand its desiccating effects. No moist-skinned, water-loving animals can exist there. Few large
animals are found. The giants of the North American desert are the deer, the coyote, and the bobcat.
Since desert country is open, it holds more swift-footed running and leaping creatures than the
tangled forest. Its population is largely nocturnal, silent, filled with reticence, and ruled by stealth.
Yet they are not emaciated.
Having adapted to their austere environment, they are as healthy as animals anywhere else in
the world. The secret of their adjustment lies in the combination of behavior and physiology. None
could survive if, like mad dogs and Englishmen, they went out in the midday sun; many would die
in a matter of minutes. So most of them pass the burning hours asleep in cool,
humid burrows underneath the ground, emerging to hunt only by night. The surface of the sunbaked
desert averages around 150 degrees, but 18 inches down the temperature is only 60 degrees.

Question 43: The title for this passage could be ______.

D. very small living things that cause infectious disease in people, animals and plants.
