When printing, I like to use the print “actual size” so you get the largest
possible size, but you can also use the “fit “ size to make sure
the edges do not get cut off.
Always look at the preview before printing so you know
the edges will not get cut off.
LARGE HAND FOR COUNTING
use this hand and buttons to work on counting and colors, for
a simple birthday activity, or as a companion to PETE THE CAT and
his four groovy buttons.

LARGE HAND FOR COUNTING
AFTER COUNTING BACKWARDS (the subtraction on the pages) DURING “PETE THE
CAT” when the buttons pop off, you can fold each finger backwards.
Attach a piece of velcro on each fingertip,
then attach the buttons (real or
laminated), after you pull the button off
(during each page), bend the fingertips
backwards and attach to the back “WHITE
PART” of the hand. This will allow you to
show 4-1=3, etc.

the air while singing

BUTTON, BUTTON WHO’S GOT THE BUTTON RULES:

*Grab a bag of colorful buttons from Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, or Oriental Trading Company.
(I added buttons to laminate, but this game works better with real buttons).

1. Have the students stand in a semi-circle with their hands extended, palms together loosely at the top so a button can be
placed inside. Keep one student out so they can be the guesser.

2. Pretend to place a button in each student’s hands, but only slip the button into one child’s hand.
(make sure the buttons are a good size so the student can hold it, hidden, in their fist).

3. Repeat the chant, “Button, Button, Who’s got the Button?” Have the guesser student guess who has the button. If the child
guesses wrong, have everyone repeat, “Button, Button, Who’s got the Button?” You can give the child a clue using descriptions
(e.g. “it’s a girl, or it’s someone wearing blue shoes, or it’s someone with short hair”, etc.). This activity is also good for
answering yes/no or WH questions also (e.g. say “If it’s someone with short hair, does Katie have short hair?”).
Use as many prompts as you need, depending on the cognitive level of your students.

4. Once the student guesses who has the button, start the game again with a new guesser and give the button to a new child.

There are several versions to this game.


*Have the students stand backwards with palms out. And follow the same rules.
*You can also let the children pass the button among each other while the guesser looks away. Then play the game using the
same rules as above (you can also have the teacher be the guesser).
*Take the buttons and play hide and seek with the buttons in a small area of the room.
