CAN CHANGE
improvement of local tropical varieties hardly existed.
THE LIVES OF
Simon Groot, a sixth generation Dutch seedsman, had a vision
of introducing breeding programs to developing seed markets
in Asia. Thus, East-West Seed was born 35 years ago with the
idea of blending European seed technology with Asian tropical MILLIONS
vegetable farming.
East-West Seed started its activities in Africa in 2008 via the Afrisem
project in Tanzania, a Dutch R&D cooperation with Rijk Zwaan to develop
hybrid indigenous varieties for the African market. Soon after, East-West
Seed built its own seed processing facility in Moshi, Tanzania with the
primary aim to produce Marigold seeds. In 2010 the company acquired
the vegetable brand Mkulima, which caused a leapfrog in East-West
Seed’s market position to become the second largest local vegetable
company in Tanzania.
The products you will find in this catalogue come in a wide range of
packaging sizes, providing access to quality seeds for all our customers,
from small-scale farmers to large-scale professional growers. In this way,
we are working to improve both farmer income and food security on the
planet.
May we wish you many successful crops with East-West Seed products!
