We are looking for a team leader who is committed to children’s learning and
development as well as their own and who is committed to providing high quality
and engaging learning experiences.

The successful candidate will be recognized as a high quality teacher and proven or
emerging leader. They will have the ability to improve learning and student
achievement within their own classroom, as well as across the teaching team. The
successful applicant will also have the ability to ensure learning experiences are fun,
challenging and engaging. They will work in a collaborative teaching team, likely Year
7 and 8, and build high quality professional relationships with our staff, students,
parents and community. They will be committed to our strategic vision of being
‘Better than Before’ and actively engage in our Teacher as Inquiry process as well as
continuous personal and professional learning.

This position comes with a small release component. There may be an opportunity
for other fixed term leadership units, so please state your curriculum strengths and
leadership experience in your application.

Team Leader Job Description
Name:

Position: Team Leader (focus on Years 4-8)

Responsible to: Principal & Deputy Principal

Date: January 2018

Key Responsibilities:

Support the Principal and Deputy Principal to ensure that Heathcote Valley School is
a highly effective and successful school.

Lead and improve the senior school based on the needs identified in the Heathcote
Valley School’s Charter, Strategic and Annual plans.

Remuneration:

Leadership Area Key Roles

Professional • Build and maintain professional, learning based relationships


Support and with tamariki, staff and parent community.
Guidance • Support and promote the strategic direction of the school (Be a
supportive member of the Leadership Team)
• Provide professional support for team members
• Support whole school professional development goals
• Lead regular Team meetings; provide an agenda for meetings
and ensure minutes are kept and available for perusal by other
staff
• Proof read Team reports,, newsletters and notices
• Check planning for consistency each term
• Ensure that people are aware of who is coming and going –
invites, welcomes & thank-yous
• In conjunction with colleagues, schedule and plan team events
– newsletter, organisation, phone calls
• Lead team planning (supported by Deputy Principal)
• Ensure a consistent approach within the Team
• Model acceptable standards for classroom layout/environment
– positive and professional classroom
• Be responsible for an effective Team budget which focuses on
purchasing resources that will support teaching and learning
• Plan for regular class room observations and ‘walk throughs’
• Collect and check team colleagues planning and assessment
• Keep an up-to-date team folder with all relevant team
documents
• Take a leadership role in staff meetings (Distributed leadership
model)

Behaviour • Be approachable and available to meet with parents of children


Management in the Team to discuss any concerns they may have
• To support and guide teachers within the team who have
students exhibiting difficult behaviour. Oversee Time Out’s.
Share any parental or student concerns at Leadership Team
meetings
• Make contact with parents of children whose behaviour needs
addressing
• Ensure that the correct procedures are followed for referring
children with behaviour concerns ie parents must speak to
class teacher first then team leader then DP/principal

Learning Needs • Be aware of the students within the Team who have special
needs and are on either the GATE or Special Needs Registers
• Be aware of the learning needs of Team – Special Needs and
Abilities referrals to come through Team meetings, monitor
Team Descriptions
• Assist the GATE coordinator in selecting students to take part
in any programmes and decide on the focus of group

Student • Complete Team reports identifying students at risk measured


Achievement against the national standards.
• Work alongside the Deputy Principal to improve Teaching and
Lernen
• Lead the implementation of innovative initiatives to accelerate
student achievement within the team.
• Respond professionally to any significant parental concerns in
the Team
• Ensure all Team assessments have been completed in-line
with the Assessment Timeline
• Be aware of and support initiatives associated with MoE targets
and National Standards

Other • Classroom Teaching 0.9 (Released 0.1)


• Implementing school policies and procedures as outlined in
SchoolDocs.
• Uphold the responsibilities and professional standards of a
New Zealand Primary School Teacher as stated in the NZEI
Primary Teachers’ Collective Contract for DPs and APs and the
New Zealand Teachers Council Code of Ethics.
