I. BASIC INSTRUCTIONS

A. LINEUPS

1. Afteryou'vechoscnyour teams, list the sianers on both platoons on the scorcshect. See the Position Designator Codes at the top
ol page B-1 for guidance. (Adefensive tackle may play nose tackle ina3-4defense oreither cackle s|k>i iiia4-3. I,ikewi.se, a

B. OFFENSIVE INDEXES

1. Addthe rating jioints of all 11 players on each of the 4 platoons, and print thesums in the Totalsblock under each column.
2. Compare each offensive platoon's total toits opponent's defensive platoon's total. TlteOffensive Index Tableon page B-1 icILs
you howto compute the Offensive Indexes. Enter the appropriate letter—A, Bor C—to the rightof OFFENSIVE INDEX on

3. Use a team's Oflcnsive Indexwlien it hasthe ball mid an Outside Running Play.Inside Running Playor Draw Play is called.
The Offensive India maybe modified on pass plays (see thePassingOffensive Index Tableon page 13-13), andit isnever used on
anykicking plays or returns.

C. KICKOFFS

e. Assume the red number under K isa 13. Refer to the Kickoffsection and you'll see two possible results forall

d. Measuring 56 y.irds from the 30yard line on the field, you'll see that OAcaught the ball atIlls 14 yard line. Now

OA-K. You look under K at 54 and find a 12. Go to tlic KickofTRenim section at the bottom right of page B-2
and you'll observe that, under 1-4, number 12 nets a21 yard return. So the deep man has advanced the ball from
his 14 to Ills 35, where his offensive unit lakes over.
