    The Bogey-Beast

    1. Flora Annie Steel born in Middlesex, England in 1847, Flora Annie Steel was an
    Anglo-Indian author who was fascinated with Indian culture and heritage. Encouraged by
    everything she learned living with the “native” Indians, she wrote extensively about
    India, while also entertaining members of her husband’s station. She connected deeply
    with the women of India, even setting up a girl’s school in Kasur, and authoring a book
    on Indian housekeeping for European women. Her fairy tale and folklore collections
    include English Fairy Tales and Tales of the Punjab: Folklore of India.
    2. The summary of the text.

    This tale t is about a woman who was very, very cheerful, though she had little to make
    her so; for she was old, and poor, and lonely. One a day a woman finds a pot of treasure on
    the road while she is returning from work. Delighted with her luck, , she decides to keep it.
    As she is taking it home, it keeps changing. However, her enthusiasm refuses to fade away.

    3. Title . I think that the title of the tale shows what the text will be about. Reflects the idea
    of the text, that despite her bad luck, the woman was not upset and laughed at this
    situation. I also think that this Bogey-Beats shows her life, poverty that will not change.
    4. Theme. The theme of the story is definitely fiction/fanatic because of what happen to the
    old lady. The story was kind of dark with some of its meanings over all.
    5. Idea. The main idea of the text, we need to rejoice at what we have, be optimistic, treat
    failures with a smile.
    6. Symbolism. When the old lady looks in the pot its like everything is not what it seems in
    this book.
    7. Language. The author uses simple words to convey the plot of this story. The author uses
    the following stylistic devices:
     Simile : “always looked as spry and cheery as if she had not a want in the world.”,
    “behind her like a go-cart”, “was as big as a haystack.”, “laughing like a
    naughty”, “like a queen”.
     Metaphor: full of smiles, , the luckiest body,
     Zeugma : All of a sudden it gave a jump, a squeal, and in one moment was as big
    as a haystack.
     Hyperbola: awful rich.
    8. Plot:
     Exposition: There was once a woman who was very, very cheerful, though she had
    little to make her so; for she was old, and poor, and lonely.
     Inciting incident: She lived in a little bit of a cottage and earned a scant living by
    running errands for her neighbours, getting a bite here, a sup there, as reward for her
    services.
     Ricing action: Now one summer evening, as she was trotting, full of smiles as ever,
    along the high road to her hovel, what should she see but a big black pot lying in the
    ditch!
     The climax: She lifted the lid and looked inside. And it was, brimful of great gold
    coins.
     Fallen action: She tied to the end of her shawl and dragged the pot with her like
    a cart. when she got a little tired of carrying such a heavy load, she left to rest a
    little and every time she stopped she looked at her treasure, which was constantly
    changing.
     Resolution: As a result, this pot of gold turned into a Bogey-Beats before home. So
    she went into her cottage and spent the evening chuckling over her good luck.

    9. I think this text is very interesting and funny. The main character of this text is very
    funny and there is a lot to learn from her. We should all rejoice at what we have, and we
    should not be upset by bad luck in life.
    I advise everyone to read this tale, there is a deep meaning in it.
