    Characters: ‫اﻟﺸﺨﺼﯿﺎت‬

     The Man: We do not know his name. He is in the desert; he


    spends most of the play "reflecting". Many actions from above
    take place. He is alone on the stage except for the presence of
    God. He spends a lot of his time looking at his hand as if he is
    seeing them for the first time. He does not speak because he
    believes words do not have much value.

    Symbols: ‫اﻟﺮﻣﻮز‬

    1. Water: symbol of life or bad acts.


    2. Scissors: useful thing that can be used in our daily life. Also
    a symbol of civilization and physical existence.
    3. Hands: symbol of existence.
    4. Rope: a symbol of help/ aid from God.
    5. At the end when he refuses to move, this is a symbol of
    death or rebellion against reality.
    6. Desert and the tree: the setting is a symbol of life.

    Themes: ‫اﻟﻤﻮاﺿﯿﻊ‬
    1. Difficulty of communication: The play is performed in a
    mime. The lack of verbal communication proves that real
    communication may be pointless or impossible.
    ‫ ﯾﺜﺒﺖ ﻋﺪم اﻟﺘﻮاﺻﻞ‬.‫ ﯾﺘﻢ ﺗﻨﻔﯿﺬ اﻟﻤﺴﺮﺣﯿﺔ ﻓﻲ اﻟﺘﻤﺜﯿﻞ اﻟﺼﺎﻣﺖ‬:‫ ﺻﻌﻮﺑﺔ اﻻﺗﺼﺎل‬.١
    .‫اﻟﻠﻔﻈﻲ أن اﻟﺘﻮاﺻﻞ اﻟﺤﻘﯿﻘﻲ ﻗﺪ ﯾﻜﻮن ﺑﻼ ﻣﻌﻨﻰ أو ﻣﺴﺘﺤﯿﻞ‬
    2. The impossibility of escape: Every time he tries to escape, he
    is sent back tumbling into the desert again. He cannot exit the
    stage after being thrown into the world. Only death can allow
    him to escape from this endless repeating cycle. Therefore,
    man cannot escape fate.
    .‫ ﯾﺘﻢ إﻋﺎدﺗﮫ إﻟﻰ اﻟﺼﺤﺮاء ﻣﺮة أﺧﺮى‬، ‫ ﻓﻲ ﻛﻞ ﻣﺮة ﯾﺤﺎول اﻟﻔﺮار‬:‫ اﺳﺘﺤﺎﻟﺔ اﻟﮭﺮب‬.٢
    ‫ اﻟﻤﻮت وﺣﺪه ھﻮ اﻟﺬي ﯾﻤﻜﻦ‬.‫ﻻ ﯾﺴﺘﻄﯿﻊ اﻟﺨﺮوج ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﺴﺮح ﺑﻌﺪ إﻟﻘﺎﺋﮫ ﻓﻲ اﻟﻌﺎﻟﻢ‬
    ‫ ﻻ ﯾﻤﻜﻦ‬،‫ ﻟﺬﻟﻚ‬.‫أن ﯾﺴﻤﺢ ﻟﮫ ﺑﺎﻟﮭﺮوب ﻣﻦ ھﺬه اﻟﺪورة اﻟﻤﺘﻜﺮرة اﻟﺘﻲ ﻻ ﻧﮭﺎﯾﺔ ﻟﮭﺎ‬
    .‫ﻟﻺﻧﺴﺎن أن ﯾﻔﻠﺖ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻘﺪر‬
    3. Boredom, the whistle from above, the man reflects, the man
    looking at his hand; and the man being thrown back to the
    desert. These are some of the actions that are repeated
    throughout the play that may cause boredom to both
    character and audience. Which also caused the man at the
    end to lose hope and refuse to move.
    ‫ اﻟﺮﺟﻞ ﯾﻨﻈﺮ إﻟﻰ ﯾﺪه ؛ ورﺟﻮع اﻟﺮﺟﻞ‬، ‫ ﺗﻔﻜﯿﺮ اﻟﺮﺟﻞ‬، ‫ اﻟﺼﺎﻓﺮة ﻣﻦ ﻓﻮق‬، ‫ اﻟﻤﻠﻞ‬.٣
    ‫ ھﺬه ﺑﻌﺾ اﻹﺟﺮاءات اﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﺘﻜﺮر طﻮال اﻟﻤﺴﺮﺣﯿﺔ واﻟﺘﻲ ﻗﺪ ﺗﺴﺒﺐ‬.‫إﻟﻰ اﻟﺼﺤﺮاء‬
    ‫ ﻣﻤﺎ ﺗﺴﺒﺐ أﯾﻀًﺎ ﻓﻲ ﻓﻘﺪان اﻟﺮﺟﻞ اﻷﻣﻞ ﻓﻲ‬.‫اﻟﻤﻠﻞ ﻟﻜﻞ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺸﺨﺼﯿﺔ واﻟﺠﻤﮭﻮر‬
    .‫اﻟﻨﮭﺎﯾﺔ ورﻓﺾ اﻟﺤﺮﻛﺔ‬
    "looking at his hand"

    Represents human existence as if he is realizing he is a human


    for the first time. Also his loneliness in the desert and lack of
    connection with others.

    "‫"اﻟﻨﻈﺮ إﻟﻰ ﯾﺪه‬

    ‫ أﯾﻀﺎ اﻟﻮﺣﺪة ﻓﻲ‬.‫ﯾﻤﺜﻞ اﻟﻮﺟﻮد اﻹﻧﺴﺎﻧﻲ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻟﻮ ﻛﺎن ﯾﺪرك أﻧﮫ إﻧﺴﺎن ﻷول ﻣﺮة‬
    .‫اﻟﺼﺤﺮاء وﻋﺪم وﺟﻮد اﺗﺼﺎل ﻣﻊ اﻵﺧﺮﯾﻦ‬

    "the man is flung backwards, he falls, gets up immediately"

    Represents Man learning from his mistakes and trying to


    survive. He tries many times to use the cubes or the rope to get
    to the water in order to survive but at the end he gives up and
    accepts death, he can no longer struggle.

    "‫ ﯾﺮﺟﻊ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻗﺪﻣﯿﮫ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻔﻮر‬، ‫ ﯾﺴﻘﻂ‬، ‫"اﻟﺮﺟﻞ ﯾﺘﺪﺣﺮج ﻟﻠﺨﻠﻒ‬

    ‫ ﯾﺤﺎول ﻋﺪة‬.‫ھﻨﺎ ﺗﺘﻤﺜﻞ ﺑﺎﻟﺮﺟﻞ اﻟﺬي ﯾﺘﻌﻠﻢ ﻣﻦ أﺧﻄﺎﺋﮫ ﻟﻤﺤﺎوﻟﺔ اﻟﺒﻘﺎء ﻋﻠﻰ ﻗﯿﺪ اﻟﺤﯿﺎة‬
    ‫ ﻟﻜﻨﮫ ﻓﻲ اﻟﻨﮭﺎﯾﺔ‬، ‫ﻣﺮات اﺳﺘﺨﺪام اﻟﻤﻜﻌﺒﺎت أو اﻟﺤﺒﻞ ﻟﻠﻮﺻﻮل إﻟﻰ اﻟﻤﺎء ﻣﻦ أﺟﻞ اﻟﺒﻘﺎء‬
    .‫ﻗﺎدرا ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻨﻀﺎل‬
    ً ‫ ﻟﻢ ﯾﻌﺪ‬، ‫ﯾﺴﺘﺴﻠﻢ وﯾﻘﺒﻞ اﻟﻤﻮت‬

    "Whistle from above"

    Symbolically refers to the heavens. Someone is watching the man


    and giving him instructions and directions, but it is his choice
    to either follow the instructions or not. It can also refer to help
    and aid from god.

    "‫"اﻟﺼﺎﻓﺮة ﻣﻦ ﻓﻮق‬

    ،‫ ﺷﺨﺺ ﻣﺎ ﯾﺸﺎھﺪ اﻟﺮﺟﻞ وﯾﻌﻄﯿﮫ اﻟﺘﻌﻠﯿﻤﺎت واﻟﺘﻮﺟﯿﮭﺎت‬.‫ﺗﺸﯿﺮ رﻣﺰﯾًﺎ إﻟﻰ اﻟﺴﻤﺎء‬


    ‫ ﯾﻤﻜﻦ أن ﺗﺸﯿﺮ أﯾﻀﺎ إﻟﻰ اﻟﻨﺼﯿﺤﺔ‬.‫ﻟﻜﻦ اﺧﺘﯿﺎره ھﻮ إﻣﺎ اﺗﺒﺎع اﻟﺘﻌﻠﯿﻤﺎت أم ﻻ‬
    .‫واﻟﻤﺴﺎﻋﺪة ﻣﻦ اﻟﻠﮫ‬
    "He does not move"

    Represents Man giving up and choosing not to do any action. This


    is the end for the man when he lost hope in reaching his goals. He
    faced many obstacles and difficulties, the man refusing to move
    maybe a sign of suicide or the man refusing reality.

    "‫"إﻧﮫ ﻻ ﯾﺘﺤﺮك ﻓﻲ اﻟﻨﮭﺎﯾﺔ‬

    ‫ ھﺬه ھﻲ اﻟﻨﮭﺎﯾﺔ ﻟﻠﺮﺟﻞ ﻋﻨﺪﻣﺎ ﻓﻘﺪ اﻷﻣﻞ‬.‫اﻟﺮﺟﻞ ﯾﺴﺘﺴﻠﻢ وﯾﺨﺘﺎر ﻋﺪم اﻟﻘﯿﺎم ﺑﺄي ﻋﻤﻞ‬
    ‫ اﻟﺮﺟﻞ اﻟﺬي ﯾﺮﻓﺾ اﻟﺘﺤﺮك‬،‫ واﺟﮫ اﻟﻌﺪﯾﺪ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻌﻘﺒﺎت واﻟﺼﻌﻮﺑﺎت‬.‫ﻓﻲ ﺑﻠﻮغ أھﺪاﻓﮫ‬
