At the end of this lesson, the learners will be able to:
• Define terms as applies to floor planning
• Discuss various areas in floor plan, symbols, standard sizes.
• Draw and design a single storey, single family dwelling residential bungalow.
• Value the importance of designing a floor plan.

Floor Plan

In architecture and building engineering, a floor plan is a drawing to scale,


showing a view from above, of the relationships between rooms, spaces, traffic
pattern and other physical features at one level of a structure. Dimensions are usually
drawn between the walls to specify room sizes and wall lengths A floor plan is a type
of drawing that show you the lay-out of a home or property from above.

It also refers to the conductor and equipment for delivering energy from the
electricity supply system to the wiring system of the premises served.

Three areas of the House:


1. Living Area – a room in a residence used for the common social activities
of the occupants.
a. Living room, patio, porch, terrace, family room
2. Sleeping Area – a room primarily for sleeping and resting
a. Bedrooms, comfort room or powder room
3. Service Area – an area to the near or the side the house set aside for
functional purposes.
a. Dining room, kitchen, garage and carport

Steps in Drawing a Floor Plan


1. Prepare the needed materials.
2. Use the correct scale.
3. Construct the wall thickness. Use 0.15cm CHB for the major walls. Start
from the center of the wall.
4. Divide the floor area to the specific areas of the house. Use a 10cm interior
wall of the portions. Compute each area of the house, then check the total floor
area.
5. Lay-out the positions of doors and windows
Main Entrance Door=0.90 – 1.50cm
Bedroom Doors= 0.80cm
Toilet/Bath Doors= 0.70cm
6. Label each part of the floor plan.
7. Draw the fixture properly and locate extension lines and dimensions lines.
8. Finally draw the Roof line of the Floor Plan.
C. ANALYSIS
1. What are the 3 main areas of the house?
2. What do you think is the importance of having a floor plan?

D. ABSTRACTION
(The teacher will ask the students about what they learned on the discussion)
