Araby Summary

young boy who is similar in age and temperament to those in "The Sisters" and "An
Encounter" develops a crush on Mangan's sister, a girl who lives across the street. One evening
she asks him if he plans to go to a bazaar (a fair organized, probably by a church, to raise money
for charity) called Araby. The girl will be away on a retreat when the bazaar is held and therefore
unable to attend. The boy promises that if he goes he will bring her something from Araby.

The Similarities of these two stories are talks about a teenage boy who both deeply fall in
love to a girl. Gonzales and Joyce were the narrators of the story, and they were both used First
person Point of View, telling the story from their own point of view. They express their personal
emotions for either themselves or their characters. It also talks how the writer wants to convey
the experience to the reader. The stories also both used imagery through the senses of sound,
sight and touch to express the main character’s feelings. Both Gonzale’s and Joyce's point-of-
view strategies are thereby allows the reader to examine the feelings of his young protagonists
while experiencing those feelings in all their immediate, overwhelming pain. Because in Araby,
the protagonist were ends in Gazing up into the darkness, where the narrator says, "I saw myself
as a creature driven and derided by vanity; and my eyes burned with anguish and anger” same
with the story Bread of Salt, The author said “the bread was not yet ready. The bread symbolizes
the boy. He was not yet ready to face the real world. The stories were both implies the blinded
romantic desires of the protagonist, but in the end, their eyes are opened to life’s harsh realities.
The stories are both cliff-hanging were the author tries to convey the reader to end the story by
their own.
The main lesson of the story is that people shouldn’t be afraid to be judged,
because that’s just how it is. Being judged is normal and yes it hurts. Society
slaps people with judgment, but that’s okay, as long as you don’t change who
you are for the society.
