Dr. John A. Schindler, in his book, ‘How to Live 365 Days a Year’ says,
“Your emotions affect a group of organs in your body called endocrine
glands even more than they affect your nervous system. These glands
govern and regulate the body functions. When these glands are activated by

production of hormones is changed and these can cause a great many
ailments.”

Walter M. Germaine writing on “The Magic Power of the Mind”
expressed the idea, “Love is the all curing medicine that conquers the
dreaded disease known as old age. Age is a relative thing. The number of
years you have lived is only an arithmatic symbol. The happiness you have
spread, and have thus yourself had, during that time is the true determinant
of your youth.”
Dr. Benoytosh Bhattacharya in his book, ‘Tridosha and Homoeopathy’
writes “All modern schools infact join hands in the ground theory of
psycho-somatic medicine, that the subjective, the psychic and the emotions
of human life are a germinating spot for all ailments and miseries.”
Nervous diseases of many kinds that characterize this age are the
outcome of worrying, emotional excitement, various wrong habits of
thought and so on.
The high potency medicine is a released force. Depending on its
particular nature or character it can be made to work either for, or against
the object of the patient.
In his doctoral thesis on ‘The Influence of the Planets Upon the Human
Body’ written as far back as 1773, Mesmer wrote, “Nature is pervaded by
invisible energies – the force of gravitation is an example – and that when
we are in tune with these energies, we are healthy. When the energies are
blocked, either by physical problems or negative mental attitudes, we
become unhealthy, if the energies can become unblocked we become
healthy again.”
We are now beginning to realize that mind can be a powerful force in
fighting off and defending ourselves from diseases. Research is beginning
to show that people who have the will to fight against a disease actually
succeed better in that effort than others who are more passive.

PREFACE
Combinations usually under the name of specifics for certain ailments

are a plenty in the market in twelve tissues, in homoeopathy and in
ayurveda.
In allopathy too, several medicines are prescribed to be taken together
or separately to cure different ailments in a patient. In Bach flower therapy
too, more than one remedy is prescribed to cover the different changes of
mood in a patient. The Bach flower remedies are equally effective whether
they are given in one combination or separately. It is more convenient and
economical to administer the remedies in combination than separately. In
the last, more than twenty five years of active practice in Bach flower
therapy and having treated thousands and thousands of patients with diverse
physical and mental problems, we have prepared some combinations which
are very common in most of the prescriptions.
Thus, for example, in every chronic disease more than one of these
elements are very common:
1. Repetition of trouble and repeated thoughts.
2. Chronicity or heredity whose effects are very difficult to dislodge.
3. Fear and/or apprehension.
4. Desire to get rid of or cleanse the system of unpleasant feelings.
5. Depression, negative thoughts.
6. Jealousy, hatred and ill feeling.
7. Impatience and irritability.
8. Unbearable pain, physical or mental.
9. Weakness, physical or mental.
10. Loss of self-confidence.
Whereas some of these remedies in combination are common in most of
the chronic diseases, it is sometimes necessary to add one or more remedies
to the basic combination for complete prescription of a particular case.
Thus, for example, White Chestnut + Walnut is the basic combination
for most of the chronic diseases, be it a chronic cough and cold or
depression or some skin disease; if the patient has fear then his prescription
would be White Chestnut+Walnut+Mimulus.
In the book, “My Clinical Experiences in Bach Flower Remedies” I
have given about 300 cases in which various combinations of Bach flower
remedies were used.
Another 220 cases are given in this book.
Although the name of the disease does not matter in homoeopathy or
Bach flower therapy, most of the patients that come to us are those who
failed to get any relief from their long treatment at the hands of allopathic
doctors. They are very conversant with the name of the disease, the clinical
tests and even the names of the drugs prescribed. They can understand or
describe their trouble by the name of the disease.
It is with a view to reach such people that we are prescribing on the
basis of the name of disease. We have quite a number of combinations
which we use in our daily practice. We have benefited from this practice
and do hope that others will benefit from it. We keep these combinations in
dilution or pills form and can supply those against order.

Thus in a case where the patient is burning with jealousy or ill-will for
somebody, his prescription would be:
Gentian+White Chestnut+ Walnut+Mimulus+Holly

Any trouble that repeats on change of season such as, cold and cough;
fever; skin trouble, etc.:
Basic Combination for Children:
White Chestnut+Walnut +Agrimony
Children suffer silently from recurrent troubles, without complaining
and without even any desire to get rid of them.
Example: A child of 5 years had breathing trouble since he was 2 years.
The trouble runs in the family. It was a hereditary trouble which repeated
off and on.
When the child had the trouble, others could see his agony but he
complained to nobody.
At other times, he was playful and happy.
He was prescribed the above combination with complete relief of all his
symptoms.
Any trouble which is hereditary or repeats on change of life, change of

season, or which is found very difficult to dislodge in a normal adult, and
patient want to rid himself of it:
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple
Example: Gautam had chronic sneezing which aggravated in the month
of September – October. He wanted to get rid of this ailment.
The above combination was taken thrice daily, which cured him.
For any other change of mood during the course of the main trouble,
another remedy is added to the basic combination:
Example: If during the course of the sneezing trouble, Gautam has
irritability, his prescription would become, White
Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Impatiens.
For any chronic trouble or some trouble which repeats from time to time
and the patient just takes it in his stride without much concern for it (neither
fear nor desire to get rid of it):
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut +Walnut
Example: Arvind felt nauseated whenever, during his morning walk, he
passed certain wild flowers growing on the side of the road.
A combination of White Chestnut+Walnut, given t.d.s. for a few
weeks cured him of this allergy.
For any acute trouble which is persistent and repetitive and the patient
wants to get rid of it:
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Crab Apple
Example: I had a very bad cold with a running nose, sneezing and a
very bad cough which did not yield to Aconitum 30 (homoeopathic), taken
every two hours in a day. From next day onwards I started taking White
Chestnut+Crab Apple every 3 hours and was relieved of the trouble the
next day.
For any trouble where fear of something persists:

Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Mimulus
Example: As the board examinations drew near, Meenu became
nervous. Fear of examination assailed her day and night.
What if she failed in the examination or if she secured lesser marks,
preventing her from getting admission into the college? How would she
face her parents who had been always warning her for spending too much
time watching T.V.? Thoughts and fear persisted.
White Chestnut+Mimulus, t.d.s. was prescribed.
Chronic constipation:
Delayed passing of stool or passing of stool postponed.
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Walnut+Scleranthus
For final prescription add to the basic combination any other remedy
indicated in the particular case.
Example: Babloo used to take at least half an hour to relieve himself in
the toilet. The practice was very irksome to other members of the family.
Babloo desperately wanted to get rid of this habit (he had made the habit of
reading some magazine in the toilet) and was irritated when he failed to
vacate the toilet on repeated knocks on the toilet door by other members of
the family.
A combination of White Chestnut+Walnut+Scleranthus+Crab
Apple+Impatiens was prescribed for him.
Chronic pain (unbearable), any type sciatica, migraine, rheumatic

toothache, gout, etc.:
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+ Walnut+Cherry Plum.
Add other remedies as indicated.
Example: Aneeta had excruciating pain in her molar tooth. Her dentist
had advised nerve treatment of the decayed tooth over 3 months ago.
Aneeta had carried on with the pain killer instead. Her dentist had now
suggested extraction of the tooth which had developed pus underneath. The
tooth could not be extracted unless the pus was ‘dried up’ by antibiotics.
Aneeta wanted to get the tooth removed immediately as the pus might
travel to the roots of the adjoining teeth, and she could no longer bear the
pain. She was prescribed, White Chestnut+Walnut+Cherry
Plum+Mimulus+Crab Apple, t.d.s.
Mimulus for fear of the pus affecting other teeth and Crab Apple for
desire to throw away the tooth.
Chronic cold and cough:

Prone to cold and cough, with sneezing, which may be or may not be
hereditary, it may be affected by any change of weather, and the patient
wants to get rid of it.
Basic Combination:
Add any other remedy which is indicated.
Example: Rahul had been suffering from chronic cold and cough for the
last 7 years and had always got it suppressed by strong antibiotics.
Somebody told him that frequent suppression of cold and cough might end
up in T.B.
He was frightened and wanted to change the system of medicine. When
he came to us, he asked, “Doctor how soon can you cure me”? He was
prescribed, White Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Mimulus+ Impatiens
Mimulus for fear and Impatiens for his desire to get quick relief.
Emergencies:
For any emergency the standard combination of Bach flower remedies
was prescribed by the father of this science i.e. Dr. Edward Bach.
It was named “Rescue Remedy.” True to its name, it continues to be
the best first aid remedy in any pathy for any type of emergency faced by a
person.
It comprises of five remedies:
1. Star of Bethlehem.
2. Rock Rose.
3. Clematis.
4. Cherry Plum.
5. Impatiens.
Example: On a short visit to Ludhiana, I was staying at a friend’s house.
At 10-30 p.m., his 10 month old son suddenly started crying and could not
be consoled by any means. Was it due to some fear, or pain, or insect bite?
Nobody could tell. A few pellets of the Rescue Remedy brought him
instant sleep.
Student’s funk:
Examination time is the most trying period in a student’s life, when he
has fear of the examination. The other most common flaw is that due to
nervousness the examinee forgets the right answer while writing the paper.
While leaving the examination hall he remembers the right answer - a case
of postponed memory.
Basic Combination:
Mimulus+Scleranthus
Example: Ashmeet was one of the top four students in the class. He was
insulted in the presence of his girl friend, one week before the start of his
board examination.
The scene of his humiliation and the thought thereof persisted in his
mind and he could not concentrate on his studies. He was prescribed:
Mimulus+Scleranthus+White Chestnut, t.d.s.
Anxiety:
Anxiety normally has three elements.
1. Constant/repetitive thoughts of fear.
2. Fear for self.
3. Fear/anxiety for others.
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Mimulus+Red Chestnut
Add other remedies if indicated.
Example: Parbati had anxiety written large on her face. Failing health
due to old age made her anxious for her own health. Anxiety about her
daughter, who had been married in an unfriendly family, constantly played
upon her mind.
Lately, she was afflicted with sort of un-named fear and apprehension
that something terrible is going to happen to the family. She was prescribed,
White Chestnut+ Mimulus+Red Chestnut+Aspen, t.d.s.
E
Eruptive fevers like chicken-pox, measles, small-pox, etc.:
Basic Combination:
Add other remedies as necessary.
Example: Jyoti had been down with measles. She had shed off the fever
but the cough persisted and her system was too weak to throw away this
remnant symptom from her body. She also complained of weakness as she
felt exhausted after slight exertion. She was prescribed, White
Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Centaury+Olive, t.d.s.
Vertigo, unsteadiness and imbalances:

A person prone to vertigo is always uncertain of himself, has fear of
falling and loses his self-confidence.
Basic Combination:
Scleranthus+Mimulus+Larch+White Chestnut
Example: Arjuna had a nasty fall on the road while taking a morning
walk. He was prone to attacks of vertigo even earlier, but had always
escaped from an actual fall. He has a family history of vertigo. He was so
upset with the attacks of vertigo that he stopped taking his morning walks.
He had lost his confidence.
A combination of, Scleranthus+Mimulus+Larch+White
Chestnut+Walnut, t.d.s., taken regularly for 2 months, rid him of of his
vertigo of several years standing.
Loss of memory:
Loss of memory in a person may be due to decay (weakness) of brain
power, old age and, or inattentiveness at the time of receiving the message.
Basic Combination:
Olive+Chestnut Bud
Example: A.C. Kapur in the later years of life became very forgetful.
Apart from his forgetfulness in normal daily life like forgetting to deliver a
message or making mistakes in household purchases, sometimes his mind
would become blank in the midst of an activity when he lost contact with
the present, past or future. In the midst of a speech, he would stop talking
and forget what he had to say.
He was prescribed, Olive+Chestnut Bud+White Chestnut.
Delusions:
Unreal thoughts, scenes, hallucination which keep the mind occupied
and disturbed.
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Crab Apple
Example: When Hargolal purchased an old bungalow at a very low
price he was very happy. But when he shifted to the premises he was
shocked to learn that this bungalow could not be rented out for many years
as some ghost was living in one room.
He kept that room locked but even then his wife was in constant fear of
the ghost and whenever she had to cross the room from outside she was
apprehensive that some misfortune would befall the family.
She was prescribed, White Chestnut+Crab Apple+Mimulus+Aspen.
C
Chronic skin trouble:
Eczema itch or skin eruptions which are affected by change of season or
the trouble is hereditary.
Basic Combination:
Example: When Hargobind could not be relieved of the chronic eczema
which was spreading instead of contracting by strong allopathic medicines
he was depressed. He went further into depression when he heard that skin
trouble, if not relieved, may end in cancer.
Fear of cancer assailed him. He was prescribed, White
Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Mimulus, t.d.s.
Diabetes:
Diabetes is an incurable disease. At least that is its reputation and unless
the patient is unusually strong, will always succumb to it, if it is not
managed properly.
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Walnut+Gentian
Add any other remedy which is indicated.
Example: When Hari Prakash complained of weakness and dizziness to
his family doctor, and the doctor found his blood sugar at 290, he was
worried that Hari Prakash might get a ‘stroke’ if he did not ‘control’ the
sugar immediately.
He was allowed to take insulin injections as per the doctor’s advise but
was prescribed the following combination for his mental health:
White Chestnut+Walnut+Gentian+Olive+Mimulus, t.d.s.
L
Lethargy:
Disinclination to work. Inactivity. Person just wants to lie down and
doesn’t want to do any work, or postpones the work. Feels tired without
having done any work.
Basic Combination:
Hornbeam+Scleranthus
Example: Pasha was very active and pushing before she was rushed to a
nursing home with an attack of viral fever. When she came back home after
having been declared clinically cured, she became lethargic. She felt no
inclination to resume her normal duties; felt tired without doing any work.
She complained of weakness and felt tired after slight exertion. Tries to
delay and postpone every activity.
A combination of Hornbeam+Scleranthus+Olive, t.d.s. brought her
round in 4 days.
Weakness and debility:

Physical weakness means tiredness after exertion, physical or mental
and is covered by Olive. Mental weakness means feeling of inadequacy to
do a job even before touching the job which calls for Hornbeam.
Temperamental weakness means lack of strength in a body system to
overcome or throw away even a small remnant of the ailment after the main
disease is cured. This calls for Centaury.
Basic Combination:
Hornbeam+Olive+Centaury
Example: When Harish got rid of his relapsed typhoid fever, he was
very weak. He could stand no exertion. It took a lot of coaxing before he
could make an effort to get up. There was persistent cough which remained
after the fever was cured. He had become very irritable.
A combination of Hornbeam+Olive+Centaury+ Impatiens, t.d.s. was
prescribed.
Sleeplessness, insomnia:
Sleeplessness has essentially 2 elements:
1. Delayed sleep i.e. cannot sleep unless very late in the night.
2. No sleep or disturbed sleep with fits and starts during the night.
Basic Combination:
White Chestnut+Scleranthus

Hoarseness:
Hoarseness means complete loss of voice or partial loss of voice due to
weakness or over-use of the vocal cords. In either case the patient wants an

kirtans since the morning, and his voice had become feeble. When he was
asked to participate in the all night Kirtan Darbar, he was afraid of the

Allergy:
Allergy means abnormal sensitivity of tissues to external influences,
such as skin, trouble on change of atmosphere, aggravation of breathing
trouble on change of season or presence of dust in the air. A patient subject
to chronic allergy has a repetitive trouble which he wants to get rid of and is
always apprehensive of the trouble repeating.

Example: Sharda, a college student from Bangalore, always had skin
eruptions during the rainy season. She had not been relieved of this trouble

Acne:
Small eruptions on face which appear at an adolescent age.
The small eruptions that appear on the face of young boys and girls at
the age of 14-18 years do not give any physical trouble such as itching or
pain, but children want to get rid of them because they look ugly.

Example: Archana had been taking Mag-m. 30 (homoeopathic
medicine), one dose weekly to get rid of her facial eruptions. When her
marriage was fixed, she became apprehensive. She could not possibly show
this face (covered with acne) to her in-laws). She wanted to get rid of these

Burns:
The treatment is the same as given under emergencies. The treatment,
however, can be made more effective if the Rescue Remedy is given orally
and also by local application in the form of Rescue ointment or Rescue
lotion (Rescue ointment is available with the author and can be supplied
with other remedies against order; Rescue lotion can be prepared on the
spot by adding a few drops of Rescue Remedy in dilution to a cup of
water). The damaged skin is covered with a coarse cloth (khadar) or lint
drenched with the Rescue lotion, and kept moist with it.
Loss of appetite in children:

Loss of appetite is usually reported in children, by their mothers, who
complain that the child does not eat anything and he/she never feels hungry.
But on questioning they readily admit that he eats any number of toffees,
chocolates, ice-cream and drinks lots of tea, coffee and coca colas.
What he does not eat is the conventional food like rice, chapatties, fruits
or vegetables, for which they have a distaste.

Urticaria:
Urticaria is one of those skin diseases which can come up at any time
without any apparent reason. It may be due to an allergy or some change of
environment. It makes the patient very uncomfortable with violent itching,
swelling of skin and a burning sensation, which one wants to get rid off.

Example: Pinki was very upset when she got an attack of urticaria. Her
examinations were approaching and this frequent itching was disturbing
her, and she became very irritable.

Teething troubles:
When a child starts cutting his/her teeth, it is not a smooth process. It is
usually accompanied by diarrhea, or pain, or fever, etc. It is a common
practice to give Calc-p. (homeopathic medicine) to the child which helps in
easy dentition.

Dark circles around the eyes is a very common complaint in girls and

120/80 is considered the normal blood pressure.
There are several causes which lead to high blood pressure, such as

the cause, when the patient learns that he has high blood pressure and he is
advised a strict regimen in diet, etc., he becomes frustrated. The thought of
having to do with a saltless and fatless diet disturbs him, and the sudden
cutting off from the old gay life seems difficult. He is advised to carry an
emergency pill always in his pocket which only means a constant fear in his
psyche.

Obesity:
Obesity may be hereditary or it may be a result of some disease, such as
hypothyroidism. Usually it is due to a faulty life style, such as eating rich

of it by doctors who advise them to reduce their weight. The common factor
in all patients who want to do away with obesity is:

uncompromising and unresponsive to any allurment or any threat.
No reason could be attributed to this change of mood in the child during
the last 1½ months. On 9th June 1999, a hot day with 42.4°C room
temperature, he was wearing jeans, a sweater of the particular colour which
he had ordered and his elder brother’s shoes, which were very loose. His
mother told me that everything had to be done strictly according to his
instructions, failure to do so would invite his anger when he would break
things, beat his mother, pull her hair and scratch her face. His mother was
supposed to be within his sight during his entire waking hours and should

Stomatitis – thrush in the mouth:
Sore mouth with or without blisters in the mouth, tongue or inside of
cheeks, they may or may not be very painful. They may be of recent origin,
chronic or occurring off and on. The patient wants to be free from the
trouble.

Example: Ram Narain had inflammation in the mouth. There were
blisters in his mouth which gave him pain on taking hot or cold food. He
had taken some strong antibiotics and was now under homoeopathic
treatment for the last 4 weeks.
A friend told him that persistent inflammation in the mouth may cause
oral cancer. He was terrified and wanted the assistance of Bach flower
remedies. He was prescribed, White Chestnut +Walnut+Crab

Varicose veins:
When the valves that control blood supply in the veins, become
ineffective, the veins become dilated and are often visible as blue cords,
usually, in the lower legs. They are ugly looking and occasionally painful.
The patient wants to get rid of them as he fears bursting of veins or
increased area of involvement.

Example: When Usha looked at her beautiful white legs as a swollen
bundle of varicose veins, she was very distressed and spent quite a bit of

Fissures, anal cuts:

People with chronic constipation, sometimes have their anus torn while
passing very hard stools. The cut in the lining of anus, is called fissure in
ano. Passing of stool especially when it is hard, is exceedingly painful in a
fissured anus.
For temporary relief the doctors give some medicated ointment, but
they always recommend surgery (stitching) for permanent relief. The anus
is liable to rupture again after surgery. The patient always has fear of pain,
while passing the stool.

Example: Ram Gopal suffered excruciating pain while passing stool.

Vomiting in pregnancy:
Vomiting in pregnancy is a normal biological feature of the change in
the life of a woman. Seldom do we come across a case where a woman does
not have any vomiting during her first pregnancy. However, sometimes, the
vomiting is so persistent and violent that it becomes unbearable.

Example: When Sonu concieved for the first time, repeated vomitings,
loss of appetite, etc. tormented her. She wanted to get rid of the repeated

Heart problem:
When a patient becomes conscious of any heart problem – may be
palpitation, hypertension or missing pulse, his immediate reaction is that of
fear of death – a constant feeling of insecurity and a desire to get rid of the
inconvenient feeling or sensation. He is advised to take some allopathic
medicines, for the rest of his life and is also advised to carry some
emergency medicine 24 hours a day. He loses his self-confidence to fight
back.

Example: Dr. Vohra had been under medical treatment, for his missing
pulse for the past 6 years.
One morning he suddenly fell unconscious and badly injured his face.
In the Army hospital, after a thorough check up with various clinical tests,
nothing could be diagnosed as the real cause of the trouble. The only
plausible explanation was that of a transient ischemic attack. They changed
their prescription but could not guarantee that a similar incident would not
recur in the future. Dr. Vohra had to curtail all his outdoor activities, living
in constant fear of an accidental fall on the roadside. He had lost his self-

After living in this pitiable state, at the mercy of specialists it dawned

Bronchitis:
When there is an inflammation in the bronchial tubes, the person feels a
difficulty in breathing freely. It is often a hereditary trouble and is usually
due to some allergy. In any case, the patient is in great distress at the time of

Spondylitis means inflammation of the vertebrae. It may be cervical or
lumbar depending upon the vertebrae involved. The pains may be constant
or casual, but generally is excessive, often unbearable. The ultimate
treatment is physiotherapy, often traction. Bach flower remedies with
proper physical exercises can give immediate and permanent relief.

Example: When Satish complained of severe pain in the cervical region,
stiffness of the neck and pain descending from the cervical region to the left
arm, it was diagnosed as a case of cervical spondylitis. He was advised to

Kidney stones (renal stones):

Kidney stones sometimes lie undetected for quite a long time without
giving any trouble. Sometimes they cause unbearable pain and call for an
immediate relief.
In allopathy the only treatment lies in surgical operation to remove the
stones, which gives relief for sometime as the stones are likely to form
again. In homoeopathy, Berberis 1x has been found excellent in relieving
the pain and getting rid of the stones, once and for all. Once the patient
knows that he has kidney stones, he wants to get rid of them. The thought
and fear of consequences (if they are not removed) persist in his mind.

Example: When Surinder became aware of his kidney stones he was
terribly afraid and wanted to get rid of them. But he could not decide which

Gall stones (cholelithiasis):

Stones in the gall bladder cause excruciating pain. The doctors advise
immediate operation which means removal of the gall bladder itself, as the
stones in the gall bladder cannot be removed alone.
In homoeopathy, Cholesterinum is a wonderful remedy to relieve the
pain immediately and homoeopathic remedies can dissolve the stones. Gall
stone patients constantly dwell on the fear of pain, and want to get rid of
them as soon as possible.

Example: When Ram Chand recalled the excruciating pain of the gall
stones he wanted quick relief from them. He was prescribed, White

Dandruff:
White powder or white flakes detached from the skin of the scalp while
combing the hair or settle on the shoulder giving an unhealthy look to the
head and shoulder. They may be accompanied with itching of the scalp.
Even when there is no physical trouble connected with dandruff, people
want to get rid of it as it looks bad.

Example: Vikas, 23 years, was much bothered about his dandruff. He
had tried all types of shampoos and oils but had failed to get rid of the white

Night mares and sleep walking:

When a person in the midst of his normal activities gets drenched in
sudden perspiration or there is a sudden increase in the heart rate, it is
obviously a case of causeless fear – Aspen.
If such an attack comes at night and the patient wakes up in cold sweat,
as if from some terrible dream, it is called a night mare. People in this state
may take to sleep walking as if they are trying to run away from their fear.
These night mares are repetitive and difficult to get rid of.

Example: Ashok had repeated attacks of night mares, and his parents
had to keep a watch against his sleep walking errands. The trouble
aggravated after seeing some horror picture at night.

Hiccup (hiccough):
Hiccough is described as ‘repeated spasmodic inspiration associated
with sudden closure of the glottis which gives rise to the ‘hic’ sound.’
The action may last a few minutes or it may continue for hours. The
precise cause of this ailment has not yet been pinpointed. It gives a very
inconvenient feeling which the patient wants to get rid of.

Masturbation:
Masturbation, generally called hand practice is defined as,
“manipulation of the genitalia to produce sexual excitement”. It is a vice
usually contracted in bad society during adolescence, and becomes very
difficult to discard in later years even when the person is married. This habit
can be discarded only if the patient co-operates and wants to get rid of it. It
has a social stigma attached to it. He also has a fear of becoming impotent
and not remaining strong enough to satisfy the sexual needs of his partner.

Frigidity:
Frigidity is defined as lack of sexual desire. For a healthy person at the
proper age, sexual desire or enjoyment from sexual act is a natural process,
and aversion to any natural desire calls for Willow. A frigid women feels
herself handicapped compared to other women. She feels depressed and is
always apprehensive that her spouse may shun her or go in for some
extramarital indulgence elsewhere.

Example: When Aneeta and Govind went in for a love marriage they
had thought that they would form an ideal life companion couple. This

Weakness after an illness:

After some illness a person feels very weak. The physical weakness

getting rid of some remnant trouble, as cough remaining after fever.

Example: When Reema got rid of her viral fever, she felt very weak.
She still had some cough and had become very irritable. She was
prescribed, Olive+Centaury+Impatiens.
B
Baldness or loss of hair:
Hair loss is probably responsible for more quackery and misleading
claims than any other problem of the modern age. Bach flower remedies do
not treat physical conditions, but help people going through this change in a
positive way without any mental disturbance. Once the mind is at peace, the
vital force becomes free to repair any damage to the physical parts.
Bald people are worried and depressed as they feel they do not look like
others, and are always thinking of this handicap.
Basic Combination:
Gentian+Larch+White Chestnut
Example: When Gopal discovered thinning of hair at his temples, he
was afraid of total baldness which was in his heredity. He was prescribed,
Gentian+Larch+White Chestnut+ Walnut+Mimulus.
Leucoderma:
Leucoderma is a condition in which the skin becomes defectively
pigmented and consequently light in colour. There is no itching and pain,
but it looks ugly and the patient wants to get rid of it. The patient is scared
that it will spread extensively over his body.
Basic Combination:
Add any other remedy if necessary.
Example: When the first leucoderma patch appeared on the upper lip of
Shanta Devi, she was terrified. The prospect of losing her good looks at a
young age was very distasteful, and the experience of her friend who had
tried the treatment of skin specialists, beauticians and homoeopaths had
been a failure. She was prescribed, White Chestnut+Walnut+Crab
Apple+Mimulus, t.d.s.

Infertility:
Infertility is described as an inability to reproduce. When a woman
cannot beget a child, she is called infertile although both the man and the
woman are equally responsible if they are unable to concieve a child.
Although most women spend a fair proportion of their adult lives in trying
to avoid pregnancy and in later years when they decide to start a family
they find difficulty in getting quick results.
When a childless woman in late thirty’s looks around and finds herself
alone in her group of friends who all have babies, the depth of her emotions
is understandable. She is despondent and she has fear of the future. The
thought of being childless haunts her day and night.

SPECIFICS IN EVERYDAY LIFE
1. Feeling bad:
For the last few days I was feeling bad, feeling below normal. Formerly,
I used to take a couple of doses of Bry. 30 with which I used to feel better.
“Complaints apt to develop slowly” is the keynote symptom of Bryonia.
This time I decided to try Bach flower therapy for the complaint, “feeling
bad for the last few days”. I could not find a fitting symptom in the
repertory of Bach flower remedies. So I argued the case mentally:
“A person feels bad or below normal when he finds himself physically
or mentally deficient. A man who is physically strong and mentally alert
never feels bad. So a combination of Olive+ Hornbeam should take care of
his physical and mental deficiency.
But this state has been continuing for the last 3-4 days, indicating a sort
of lurking fear in the mind. The trouble may continue or even aggravate in
the days to come.
A final prescription of Olive+Hornbeam+Mimulus was decided upon
with fine results.
2. Constipation:
Sits for long hours on the commode or passing of hard stools or no
stools for a day or two.
Babloo complained of constipation. It was a chronic trouble with him.
Although he had regular movement of bowels every day, he had to sit on
the commode for at least 30 minutes to ease himself. There was no other
trouble. Only it was the delayed action of his excretory organs that bothered
him. A combination of White Chestnut +Walnut+ Scleranthus was
prescribed, t.d.s.
3. Sudden palpitation of heart:

Mrs. Sonia Talwar complained of occasional fits of cardiac palpitation.
Yesterday, while she was having a strol in the park, she suddenly found her
heart beat raised. She immediately rested on a bench and her heart beat
became normal after a few minutes. This was the 2nd time she had this
trouble.
Sudden palpitations without any heart trouble corresponds to the rubric,
‘sudden causeless apprehension’ for which Aspen is the indicated remedy.
Fear of repetition of the trouble in future is covered by Mimulus.
Thus a combination of Aspen+Mimulus, t.d.s. was prescribed.
4. Forgetfulness:
Harmeet Singh wanted some remedy for his forgetfulness.
When he was asked what he meant by forgetfulness, he explained that
sometimes when he was asked to go and fetch something, he would go to
the place where the thing was lying but then his mind would suddenly
become blank and he would forget why he had come there. He, then feels
frustrated and becomes irritable. White Chestnut is prescribed for a mind
suddenly becoming blank and Impatiens for irritability. Hence a
combination of White Chestnut+Impatiens was prescribed, t.d.s.
5. Intolerable pain in teeth:

Harleen Kaur complained of intolerable pain in her molar teeth. She
could not even open her mouth. The pain had started 3 days ago and had the
same pattern. Pain started as soon as she left the bed in the morning,
reached its peak in the afternoon and then subsided in the evening. The pain
is in the molars of the right side which are otherwise healthy except for a
filling in one tooth.
A combination of White Chestnut+Cherry Plum+ Mimulus was
prescribed t.d.s. for 2 days.
There was no pain on the 3rd day. Mimulus was included in the
prescription because she was scared of this pain continuing on the next day.
6. Facial neuralgia (intolerable pain):

Mrs. Rajinder Kaur had intense pain on the left side of her face. The
pain extended to the head, so that her whole face and head suffered from
unbearable pain. The pain was paroxysmal. She had been taking
homoeopathic medicinesfrom the dispensary for the last one week without
much relief. Only the Rescue Remedy gave her temporary relief off and on.
A combination of White Chestnut+Cherry Plum+ Mimulus, thrice daily,
gave her relief from day one. The prescription was continued for one
month.
7. Lazyness, no inclination to work:

Mrs. Joginder Kaur had chronic constipation. She did not have
satisfactory stool in the morning and was always thinking about it. She was
temperamentally very lazy. She had no inclination to do any work. Even the
odd, small household duties tired her. She was physically weak and lazy.
She considered the unsatisfactory stools as the root cause of all her
deficiencies. A combination of White Chestnut (for repeated thoughts
about constipation)+Hornbeam (laziness)+ Olive (physical weakness) was
prescribed.

8. Incorrigible (could not improve):
Harpreet could not improve his english subject even with the assistance
of a tutor. He repeated the same spelling mistakes in dictation and
grammatical mistakes while writing. He did well in other subjects. The
reason was that the english teacher had once insulted him before his
classmates and he could not forget that incident. Whenever he opened the
english book, the scene of the teacher, insulting him came before his eyes
and disturbed him.
He wanted to get rid of that unfortunate memory as the date of his final
examination was drawing near. A combination of White Chestnut (for
repetitive thoughts)+Chestnut Bud(repeating the same mistakes)+Crab
Apple (to rid him of the unpleasant thoughts) was prescribed.
9. Noises in the head, day and night:

Mr. B. S. Grover, a photographer, was afflicted by various constant
noises in the head, sometimes like hissing, as from steam escaping from the
safety valve, sometimes like buzzing, fluttering, humming, etc.
The trouble started 3 years ago when he had to go out on a scooter on
30th December, with severe, neuralgic toothache and an acute cold. He had
to take a lot of antibiotics and pain killers for his tooth infection. “The
noises are constant and my brain does not get a moment’s respite”, he
complained. “All clinical tests are clear. All treatments have failed to give
any relief”. Instead, he feared that the trouble might increase.
8.4.98 : White Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Mimulus was
prescribed, t.d.s.
15.4.98 : Reported there was some relief in the first 3 days but then the
progress stopped. Gentian was added to the above
prescription.
22.4.98 : Reported 75% relief. The same prescription was continued.
O
10. Over-attached to father:
Sahib and Onkar the twins, now 3 years old, were over-attached to their
father. Their mother who was to take the children with her to her parent’s
home in Calcutta, for a fortnights visit, was worried.
What if the children became home sick or started sulking due to the
absence of their father? How could she handle them alone in the absence of
her husband and her mother-in-law?
Chicory was prescribed t.d.s. to both the children for their over
attachment to the father.
Hornbeam+Mimulus was prescribed t.d.s. for the mother. Hornbeam
for the feeling of inadequacy before the event, and Mimulus for fear of
future. Rescue Remedy was given, for use in any emergency, in a separate
phial.
11. Feels inadequate – cannot attend to duty:

Triloki was finding it difficult to attend to his work in the workshop. He
told the foreman of his inadequacy in continuing his duty. He had suffered
from viral fever 2 weeks ago. The fever was then aborted by allopathic
drugs. Since then he had not regained his health.
Centaury is the remedy for the system, which is too weak to throw out
the remnants of the disease after it is cured i.e. cough or laziness remaining
after recovery from the main disease, and Olive is called for, because of the
physical weakness which he was experiencing while attending to his duty.
A combination of Centaury+Olive was prescribed t.d.s. for one week.
12. Fever repeats off and on:

Dev Raj was on leave for one complete week, 12 days ago. He was ill
and under allopathic treatment.
10 days after rejoining the duty, he again felt uneasy – bodyaches, loss
of appetite and chilly feeling – the same symptoms which indicated that he
is going to have fever again. He has been having fever off and on,
especially on every change of season. Allopathic treatment and even
homoeopathic treatment to abort the fever in the past have only given
temporary relief.
White Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Mimulus was prescribed t.d.s.
13. Oh! That sudden pain in the leg:

Mr. G.S. Bakshi complained that he gets shooting pain in the right
upper leg, off and on, since the last one month. The pain may last from 1-15
minutes and a dull pain may persist for some hours. The doctors called it
muscular pain and gave him some pain killers for temporary relief. He was
afraid that the pain might became a permanent liability. A prescription of
White Chestnut+Cherry Plum+Mimulus was prescribed t.d.s. He felt
much better after the 1st three doses, but complained that he was not getting
full relief. This showed his impatience to get well immediately. So
Impatiens was added to the previous prescription.
He got full relief soon after.
14. She seems alright:

Mrs. Akhtar Jehan had been cured of all her physical ailments by
homoeopathic and Bach flower remedies in our dispensary. This fact was
confirmed by her husband who said, “She seems alright but does not appear
to be happy. Except for some weakness, she does not have any physical
problem. She also goes on worrying about her children who have moved
away from their joint families to live their own independent lives.” A
combination of Olive+ Red Chestnut was prescribed t.d.s.

15. Depressed and apprehensive:
Miss. Meenu was feeling very depressed and physically weak. Her elder
un-married sister had become unmanageable due to her sexual mania.
Meenu was terribly afraid of her sister’s violent bursts of anger. She had a
great anxiety for her aged parents who had no male child. She was always
apprehensive about some trouble from any quarter.
A combination of Aspen+Rock Rose+Red Chestnut+ Olive was
prescribed t.d.s.
16. Too good to be real:

Mr. Malhotra was a very good person, sweet tempered, mild mannered,
with a very humanitarian outlook. He wanted to be helpful to all. He was
the eldest amongst 3 brothers and one widowed sister. All the members of
the family were independent with their own sources of income and living
separately with their families. Mr. Malhotra was very considerate towards
the needs of his brothers and particularly to the never ending demands of
his widowed sister, which he had been always meeting. As a result, she
expected too much from him and had started making demands as a matter
of right. During a business crisis, when he expressed his inability to meet
her demands, he was insulted. He wanted to call it a day and say, “Thus far
and no further,” but could not snap the old ties by himself. He was given:
1. White Chestnut for repeated thoughts of insult.
2. Walnut to snap old ties.
3. Chestnut Bud for repeating the same mistake of overindulgence to
an ungrateful sister.
17. Cannot eat despite hunger:

Pawandeep Singh had recently been down with viral fever, and got rid
of it by allopathic treatment. As an aftermath of the ailment, he had a
nagging cough which his weak constitution had not been able to overcome.
Last evening, he had eaten some ice cream and got loose motions. He
refused to eat anything for fear of aggravating the diarrhea, although he felt
the hunger pangs. He felt very weak.
A combination of the following 3 remedies was prescribed:
1. Centaury for weakness of the system to get over the remnant after-
effects of the main disease.
2. Olive for the physical weakness.
3. Mimulus for fear of diarrhea which was preventing him to eat,
despite the hunger.
18. High blood pressure (due to mental tension):

Mrs. Bakshi was under great mental tension. There was a theft in the
neighbour’s flat, and the police had visited her flat to make routine
enquiries. Her domestic servant and her driver had also been questioned.
What if the police implicated her servant as an accomplice in the theft
or tried to harass her for some consideration? Even the frequent call of the
police at her house would badly reflect on the reputation of her family. The
thoughts and her apprehensions made her so tense that her blood pressure
rose to 220/110 mm. of Hg. and a doctor had to be called in. Mental tension
was diagnosed as the cause of high blood pressure.
A combination of White Chestnut+Mimulus+Aspen was prescribed,
t.d.s.
19. That nagging cough:

When Purshottam came to the dispensary, he could hardly speak. He
was coughing continuously in paroxysms. The paroxysmal bout of
coughing was so severe that it called for an immediate attention. Earlier
many homoeopathic medicines which seemed indicated had failed to give
him any relief. We were still at a loss to locate the correct homoeopathic
remedy which could give him immediate relief. As the paroxysmal cough
was of the same type, repeating and aggravating with every change of
weather, we prescribed a combination of White Chestnut+Walnut, 3 doses
every one hour for a day and thrice daily for one week.
20. Confused, patient and doctor:

Omwati was being treated for various ailments in the dispensary. The
treatment had done her a lot of good, and a prescription of Bach flower
remedies had been drawn up for regular use. One morning, she came up
with several complaints. She started narrating those complaints in such a
haphazard way that I could not make head or tail of her main complaint.
She had something wrong with every part of the body, from head to foot
and could not even tell which complaint was to be attended to first. She was
totally confused and I also felt the same way.
3 doses of Scleranthus were given for one day. Next day her condition
was vastly improved and she asked, “When shall I be fully cured”.
A combination of Scleranthus+Impatiens was prescribed, t.d.s. for 4
days, after which she was advised to revert to the old prescription.
21. The unmanageable child:

Japneet Singh had a violent temper at the age of 5 years. He could not
stand contradiction. He flared up at the slightest pretext and became mad
with rage immediately. Once, when his father forbade him to watch the
T.V., he took off his scarf and tied it around his neck to strangle himself.
He was intensely selfish and self-contained. He would not mix with
others and never allowed his brother to touch his toys, although he played
freely with the toys of his brother.
A combination of Chicory (for selfishness) and Cherry Plum for
uncontrollable anger was prescribed t.d.s.
22. Terrorized:
Ajit Singh, 10 years, was a very lovable child. He was jovial, sociable
and a good student in his class.
His elder brother H. Singh, 16 years was over-fond of T.V., music and
disco dancing, which affected his studies. He was very often reprimanded
and even severely beaten in the presence of Ajit Singh by his parents.
Whereas the reprimands and beatings did not have any effect on H. Singh,
they had profound effect on his younger brother, who was of a very
sensitive nature.
He became so terrorized that he become mute. He neither eats well nor
speaks with anybody. He just weeps and and weeps all the time. He does
not reply to any questions. He has lost interest in everything, even in cricket
which was his main interest before. He has become over attached to his
mother and follows her in the house all the time. White Chestnut for
constant and repeated thoughts of brother’s punishment; Rock Rose for
terror; Chicory for over-attachment to his mother and Cherry Plum for
constant weeping. A combination of the above four remedies was thus
prescribed.
23. Wanted pleasure:

Mr. J. Raj, 56 years, had worked very hard and established a very good
business. He was leading a very happy family life when he decided to have
the “pleasures of life” now that he had already set everything in order,
family, business and children. He went in for a 2nd marriage with a beautiful
divorcee woman having one son from her previous marriage.
He had a wonderful time for about 6 months when he spent 8-10 lacs of
rupees to please his 2nd wife. Then due to some misunderstanding, he
returned to his old family comprising of a wife, 3 daughters and 2 sons.
Now he is down with depression. He is very impatient by nature. Gets up in
the morning but cannot leave the bed. He does not move out of the house.
Old thoughts keep revolving in his mind. His mind is weighed down by
intense remorse for the past events. A combination of
Impatiens+Hornbeam+Pine+White Chestnut was prescribed.
24. Heaviness in the chest, anxiety:

Kulvinder had stomach trouble 2 days ago which was relieved by
homoeopathic medicine.
She was feeling some heaviness in the chest. It was not a pain as she
confirmed, just an inconvenient sensation of heaviness which was worrying
her, and which she wanted to get rid of. A combination of Crab
Apple+Mimulus, t.d.s. was prescribed.
25. When all therapies failed to give relief:

Sumesh Manchanda, 26 years, was suffering from back pain for the last
seven years. The pain had developed without any known reason and all
treatment, allopathic, homoeopathic and ayurvedic had failed to give any
relief. All clinical tests were clear. He got some relief from acupressure.
Acupuncture had relieved the pain upto 60% but there was no further relief.
Recently one of his friends died in a scooter accident, and he cannot get
that accident off his mind. As a result, due to the backache and the shock,
he could not concentrate in studies and failed in a professional course exam.
These two incidents have shaken his self-confidence, and he has a constant
sense of fear for the future. A combination of White
Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Mimulus +Larch was prescribed t.d.s.
26. Constantly weeping child:

Mansi, a domestic help, was engaged to render assistance in marriage
festivities, but her one year old son became a nuisance by his incessant
weeping.
When nothing could stop the pitiful crying of the child, a couple of
doses of that wonderful combination of Bach flower remedies, known as
Rescue Remedy quietened the child in less than 5 minutes, and he went to
sleep.
Rescue Remedy comprises of the following five remedies: Cherry
Plum+Impatiens+Clematis+Rock Rose+Star of Bethlehem.
27. She washed her hands too often:

Mrs. Veena M., now 43 years, was quite normal when she was married
at 20 years age. Only 1½ years stay in a joint family was enough for her to
contract her mother-in-law’s habit of washing her hands with soap every
time she touches any food stuff, even raw vegetables. She does not allow
anybody to enter her kitchen, or help her in washing or cutting raw
vegetables.
She has developed skin trouble due to frequent use of soap and is
suffering from arthritis in the knee joints due to standing in the kitchen from
morning to evening doing the kitchen work alone. Her grown up son resents
this and she has even threatened to separate him after he is married.
She is fully conscious of her fault but can not get rid of it. The whole
family feels socially alienated, and she fears the consequencess. A
combination of Crab Apple+Cherry Plum+Mimulus+Walnut was
prescribed to get her out of this chronic trouble.

28. Frequent urination:
Mrs. Kalra, 25 years, married one year ago missed her period and her
pregnancy test was positive. She was bothered by frequent urination. She
felt her bladder was always full and felt the urge every 10-15 minutes.
There was also constant pain in the lower abdomen. She was afraid that this
nagging pain and frequent urination might endanger her pregnancy. A
combination of 3 remedies was prescribed:
Cherry Plum for frequent urination, Mimulus for fear of abortion,
Crab Apple for the desire to get rid of the very inconvenient urge for
frequent urination and pain in the abdomen.
29. Feeling of inadequacy to undertake a job:

Mrs. Harvinder Kaur woke me at 12 in the night to say that she was in a
great mental tension. Her sister has to be shifted to a hospital for some
urgent operation and they were waiting for her at Ludhiana, because there
was nobody else who could accompany her to the hospital. She desperately
wanted to go, but her own condition was bad. In the last 24 hours she could
not urinate despite constant pressure. She felt so weak and incapable of
undertaking the responsibility of taking charge of an emergency case, when
she had constant fear about her own health.
She was given Apis 30, one dose dissolved in a cup of water and taken
one spoonful every 10 minutes, and a combination of White Chestnut (for

30. Recurrent attacks of fever:

Sultan Singh, 3 years old, was running 103ºF temperature when he was
brought to me. His mother told me that Sultan remained hale and hearty at
Chandigarh, but whenever he visited Delhi, he would invariably fall ill. As
she was leaving for Chandigarh, she was not much worried about the child’s
fever, but she wanted some medicine which could break this chain of
repetitive fever in the child.

31. Anticipates repetition of old trouble:

Pawandeep Singh had chronic diarrhea, which was earlier relieved by
homoeopathic treatment.
He came again one day and complained that he had loose stools in the
morning, and he was feeling pain in the throat as of a swollen gland. These
are the symptoms which develop before he gets a spell of diarrhea and
throat trouble. A combination of White Chestnut+Walnut+Crab
Apple+Mimulus was prescribed t.d.s.
32. Asthma of several years standing:

Guneet Singh now 7 years had been silently suffering from bronchial
asthma from early childhood. He was distressed due to his breathing
trouble, but did not complain of the ailment to anybody. At other times he
was just normal. He was prescribed a combination of White
Chestnut+Walnut+ Agrimony, t.d.s.
33. Migraine:
Mrs. Gurpal Kaur, 45 years, had been suffering from terrible migraine
for over 20 years. Only a few pain killers could give temporary relief at the
time of the attack. No prescription in any pathy had been found effective in
preventing the attack.
She could always get an inkling of the impending attack by a feeling of
nausea or a feeling of uneasiness in the abdomen. A combination of White
Chestnut+Walnut+Cherry Plum+Mimulus, t.d.s. was prescribed.
34. The unbelievable relief:

Mr. Tarlok Singh, a Supreme Court lawyer had been suffering from
chronic knee pain for the last 30 years, and did not get much relief from any
treatment – allopathy, homoeopathy, ayurvedic, etc. Once before in the past,
he had been much benefited by our treatment for perforation in his ear after
the E.N.T. specialist had declined to take the case saying, “No hope”. He
did not come to us earlier because he was ‘too busy in his professional
work’. Here was a man who walked lame and suffered intense pain in
walking but was ‘too busy in his professional work’ to find time for his
treatment – a peculiar Vervain case. After giving him a couple of Bryonia
200 and Medorrhinum 1M doses, he was given a combination of White
Chestnut+Walnut+Vervain, t.d.s. for 1 week.
After one week he said, “It is unbelievable. In just one week I have 30%
relief in my 30 year old trouble.”
35. “ Why don’t you cure me?”:

Miss. Rekha Guglani complained that she was having repeated styes on
her eyelids for the last 3 months, and she was always given Staphysagria
which gave her relief only for a week or so. “Uncle, why don’t you cure me,
when you are curing everybody else?” This question clearly showed that
Rekha was feeling that she alone was being discriminated against – a
Willow feeling. For permanent relief she was prescribed a combination of

36. I still get irritated:

Harmeet Singh was much worried about the eruption on his face and
irritability of temper. He was much relieved of the trouble by Bach flower
remedies, when he lost the medicine and came again to resume the
treatment. He admitted that he got almost full relief in the facial eruptions,
but still got irritated very soon. Besides, he had become very forgetful. He
just could not recollect what he had to do at the proper time although his
memory returned later on. A combination of Crab Apple+

Mrs. Surjeet Kaur looked alright while sitting on a chair, she admitted
that. She admitted she had no trouble in this position.
But she dared not get up without the aid of the walking stick, and was
always afraid of falling even when using the walking stick. She would feel
tired after walking a few paces and looked for some place to sit. In fact, she
was bereft of any self-confidence. A combination of Hornbeam+Olive+
Larch+ Mimulus, t.d.s. was prescribed.
38. The wise fool complained:

Gayatri, a well educated married girl, was intelligent with an I. Q. above
average but she lacked self confidence – she had good sound judgement,
but did not trust it. She was always seeking confirmation of her decision
from others. She gave preference to other’s opinion over her own. She
always remained indecisive, changing decisions on other’s advise and very
often, she repented for following other’s decisions. Soon she lost her mental
balance.
On 20.8.97, she complained that she was not receiving proper attention
from her parents and often wept on thinking of it.
Chicory was added to the previous combination of Cerato+Cherry
Plum which had been previously prescribed for her ‘wise fool’
temperament.
39. He had quite a firm grip:

Hargopal had accidentally broken his right arm which had been
properly set and joined firmly. The plaster was finally removed after 10
weeks.
The doctor had assured Hargopal that the fractured joint was now 100
% okay and he should start using this arm so that its mobility could be
properly restored. But Hargopal would not move the arm, for fear it could
fracture again. I just clasped his hand and asked him to press my hand as
firmly as he could. His grip was very firm. Despite this he would not lift
even 1 kg. weight with this hand, and would not move the arm.
For one thing he had completely lost his self-confidence and was afraid
of breaking of the joint again.

40. He could not say ‘no’ to anybody:

Chamanlal was a good man who took pleasure in serving his fellow
human beings. He was very popular, because his services were available to
anybody at mere asking. In the office, his colleagues would ask him to do
their work while they would gossip away their time and he would carry his
files home to complete his work. At home he was always available for
doing any job that his neighbour asked him to do. While going to the
market, for making odd purchases, the neighbours gave him their list of
requirements also.
This day-in, day-out service of his fellow being drained him of all his
energy.
He was dead tired and wanted rest. Inspite of his bad state of health, he
could not say ‘no’ to anybody. Ultimately he was hospitalized for recouping
his health, none of those for whom he worked all his life found time to see
him. He was frustrated and full of remorse with fear of future.
Centaury+Pine+Olive+Mimulus was prescribed.
41. Suppressed headache and sleeplessness for 2 years:

Deepak had constant headache and sleeplessness for the last 2 years. It
started suddenly when he went to Bangalore on a business tour, although he
had been feeling below normal for the previous 2 months. His father died 9
years ago, when he was only 16. After his studies in England, he had to take
over the responsibilities and worries of a big export business. He had to
work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. without respite and the mobile phone on his side
ensured that he received business calls even at night. He was disgusted with
the allopathic treatment which showed that all clinical tests were clear, and
yet gave no relief. He had constant headache which sometimes became
unbearable, with sleeplessness at night and various sensations such as
coldness, numbness of legs, fear of travelling by air, etc.

42. Acne, he desperately wanted to get rid of:

Nishant, 18 years, had acne on the face since 4 years. Allopathic
medicine and lotions had failed to give relief. At first, there was no itching
and no pain, so he did not care about it much. But now, when he tried to
shave his chin, the razer blade injured the skin, and caused a burning pain.
He was afraid to shave the chin and could not think of the prospect of
moving about with an unshaven face. He was desperate to get rid of the

43. Bronchitis which unnerved him:

Rohtas Sharma, a postal employee, had been suffering from chronic

What if she gets the pain again ? The thought constantly bothered her. A
combination of White Chestnut+Mimulus was prescribed t.d.s. for 2 days
to remove that fear from her mind.

45. No more vomiting now:
Pinki had a chronic vomiting trouble. It started with morning sickness
during her pregnancy, 7 years ago, and has not subsided by any treatment.
She can hardly retain any food. At the age of 32 years, she weighs just 32
kgs. The weight does not increase because food retention is very little.
Clinical tests have revealed no fault. More often than not, she vomits out
whatever she eats. She is afraid of some serious ailment which has not been
diagnosed and she wants to get rid of this trouble. A combination of White
Chestnut+ Walnut+Crab Apple+Mimulus was prescribed.
46. He had fear of falling:

Mr. Sabu got much relief in his knee pain after taking homoeopathic
medicine. But he was not satisfied. He felt weakness in the legs, and was
afraid that he might fall while walking.

47. He could not remember due to a weak brain:

When I prescribed a combination of White Chestnut+
Walnut+Olive+Mimulus to a young student who could not remember his
lessons because he had a weak brain and was afraid of failure in the
examination, my colleague asked me as to why I had not prescribed
Hornbeam for the mental weakness.
I explained, that it has been established by clinical tests that the child
had a weak brain, which was congenital in this case. Brain is a part of the
physical body and therefore Olive was prescribed.
Mental weakness relates to weakness of “will” and not to weakness of
brain.

48. She felt unwell and weak:
Daljit complained of vertigo and a general feeling of uneasiness. She
felt so weak that she could not do any work. She just wanted to lie down
and close her eyes. She was perspiring without any exertion. Blood pressure
was normal. Feeling unwell means weakness and unable to do normal work
– Olive+Hornbeam.
Vertigo: Clematis.
Perspiring without exertion: Aspen.
She was prescribed Clematis+Olive+Hornbeam+Aspen, to be taken in
4 doses at one hour interval, and then after every 3 hours if necessary.
49. Could not study due to mental tension:

16 year old Parminder was severely reprimanded by her father. She had
left some soiled clothes on the wash basin in the bathroom, and before she
had uttered a word in protest, she was beaten. Her mother was also beaten
by her irate father when she tried to intervene. This had created so much
tension in her mind that she could not study and prepare for the
examination.
Her prescription was drawn on the following reasoning:

52. She could not bear the torture to her daughter:

Rani Dhawan complained of splitting headache, nausea and extreme
weakness. She had been in indifferent health for the last few days but never
looked so down-cast. Her young daughter was down with fever and
dysenteric stools for the last 72 hours. Extreme colic in the abdomen
prevented sleep and she had been crying aloud day and night. Constant
anxiety and fear for the worst was the cause of this aggravation in Mrs.
Dhawan’s condition. A combination of White Chestnut+Red
Chestnut+Mimulus was prescribed t.d.s.
53. Stammering that was not . . . . .:

Aashish, 24 years, wanted to get rid of stammerng which he felt was
blocking his progress in life. However there was no trace of stammering
while he spoke to us. His speech was clear and uninterrupted. He, however,
became nervous and tongue-tied in an interview and whenever he had to
face a superior person. He lacked self-confidence. This thought of
inadequacy constantly preyed upon his mind and he had become very short

54. No fever but unwell:

Kuki had recovered from viral fever but still felt unwell. The after-
effects of fever, some cough, occasional sneezing, feeling of heaviness, no
inclination to work, etc. persisted. She felt exhausted. She could not say she
was ill and dared not say she was well. It just meant she lacked the will
power to throw away the minor remnants of disease from her system.

55. Iam running 103ºF temperature but I must attend shop tomorrow:
Mr. Dhingra was running 103ºF temperature but he had to attend his
shop, and could not take rest. He was feeling very weak. He was in much
hurry to get rid of the fever and the uneasy feelings. He had fear that he
might not get rid of his fever in time to get to his shop next morning.
A combination of Crab Apple+Impatiens+ Mimulus+ Olive was
prescribed, t.d.s.
56. There was a limit to his patience:

Ved Prakash had a lot of patience and could stand derogatory remarks
against him for quite sometime. However, if he was provoked beyond the
limit of his tolerance, hell would let loose on his temper. He would become
literally mad with anger, with his mind losing control on his actions. He
was afraid of his own temper. A combination of Cherry Plum+Mimulus
was prescribed t.d.s.
57. Advised surgery or homoeopathy:

Veena, 10 years, had chronic cold and cough. The doctors said, there
was swelling of the nasal bone and in allopathy, the only treatment was by
the intervention of surgery. However, there was a chance of some treatment
by homoeopathy. They were afraid of trying homoeopathy as the child
might not be able to withstand the aggravation, if the doctor tried to force
out all the suppressed cold, by homoeopathic remedies. She was cured by

Madhuri checked into a hotel for her honeyhoney moon. What

60. Skin trouble was his hereditary problem:

A.S. had violent itching on the scrotum and adjoining parts near the
groin and had been getting temporary relief by surface applications. He had
tried homoeopathy but it had aggravated his trouble. He had suffered from
eczema of the leg 10 years ago and his father too had chronic skin trouble.
He was afraid that this itching and scratching on private parts would
place him in a very awkward position in the presence of ladies. He wanted
to get rid of this chronic trouble once and for all.

61. She was herself a qualified doctor, but . . . .:

Meetu was preparing for her examination. The entrance examination for
admission to M.D. course was approaching fast. She felt a sudden pain in
the back of her abdomen. She thought it was menstrual pain. After
sometime the pain shifted to the left side of the abdomen. Again the pain
moved to the centre of the abdomen, in between the navel and pit of the
stomach. The pain stuck there causing her much inconvenience. She had
never felt this type of a pain in her periods. She became apprehensive as she
could not allocate this pain to any cause or any part of the internal organs. It

Suman had trouble with her teeth. Any food or drink, hot or cold, would

could not prescribe for her trouble. She wanted to get rid of this trouble
which recurred everytime she wanted to eat or drink something.

63. Migraine:
Neelam, now 44, had migraine for the last 20 years and all clinical tests
in the hospital could not reveal anything abnormal and she had to take pain
killers everyday.
The frequency of attacks had increased, and she had begun to doubt if
she could ever be cured. She was afraid of this thought she wanted to get rid
of the chronic trouble.

64. Excruciating chest pain:

Mrs. Paul, 75 years, was suffering from pain in the chest for the last 10
years. Stitching pain at one point in the chest, at odd times, had made her
life unbearable.
All clinical tests were normal. Allopathic and ayurvedic treatment had
failed to give any relief. The pain was spasmodic, and even the pain killers

Madhuri, a young mother of 2 children was quite happy at her in-laws
house, but she was distressed by the unpleasant atmosphere at her parent’s
house. Her uncle, who was the head of the joint family, was too strict and
had lately become a terror in the house. His atrocious behaviour, abusive
language and shouting had alienated all members of the family including
his wife, his son and daughter-in-law who had ceased speaking with him.
Madhuri dared not to go to her parents house, she was afraid for herself and
had constant fear and anxiety for her mother and brother who lived there.
She silently suffered and wept on their condition. She was prescribed White
Chestnut +Agrimony+Red Chestnut+Mimulus, thrice daily.
67. When other pathies failed:

Himanshu Arora, 11 years, was suffering from intolerable pains since
the last 6 months. It had started after eating some food from a wayside
hotel. The pain started in the abdomen and then shifted to the back and legs.
There were no other guiding symptoms except that he had a severe attack of
typhoid one year ago. All allopathic treatment and clinical tests failed to
give any relief. Ayurvedic medicines did not do any good . In homoeopathy,
Pulsatilla given for shifting pains did not help and Typhoidinum given to
offset any remnant effects of typhoid had no effect. Ultimately, the
following Bach flower remedies were prescribed:
White Chestnut for repetitive attacks.
Walnut for difficult chronic case.
Cherry Plum for unbearable pain.
Scleranthus for shifting pains.
68. Heredity had caused a gloom in her life:

Sudesh complained of pain in fingers and stiffness in joints of hand. She
remained unhappy and depressed all the time for no apparent cause. Her
sister had died of cancer and Sudesh had begun to believe that any chronic
trouble was a precursor of cancer, and this pain in fingers and stiffness of
joints had become chronic. She was terribly afraid of cancer, and negative
thoughts always occupied her mind.
She was prescribed White Chestnut+Mimulus+Gentian.
[Note: Cherry Plum was not prescribed because she did not complain of unbearable
pain. Pain was only a causative factor of her depression.]
69. No treatment except pain killers:

Sudesh Arora complained of stitching pain in the chest behind the
sternum. For the last 5 months, he was under allopathic treatment. All
clinical tests were normal, and he was given only pain killers to relieve the
pain. He was worried about the chest pain. He was under tension, had
constant fear and wanted to get rid of the pain. He was prescribed, White
Chestnut+Mimulus+Crab Apple.
70. Could not believe that one dose could cure:

Mr. Wasan had trouble with his teeth. They were normal on all
accounts, and he had no trouble with them at any time except when eating.
There was pain in teeth only while eating. The dentist had even X-rayed
the roots of the teeth and found them normal, on surface, the teeth looked
perfect and strong.
When I gave him one dose of Kali-c. 1M, Mr. Wasan was visibly not
satisfied. How could one dose of medicine remove a 6 month old trouble,
when all the clinical tests and treatment had made no effect earlier? I could
see this question written large on his expression, and before he could utter a
word, I took a small phial and filled it with globules impregnated with a
combination of White Chestnut+ Walnut +Mimulus and advised him to
take it t.d.s. for 7 days. Even if I had not given that one dose of
homoeopathic medicine, I would still have given this combination.
71. He came to me as a last resort:

When Mr. Anil Sarad, 38 years, a bank manager, came to me on the
advise of Dr. Bhardwaj, he was much depressed. His eye trouble had been
diagnosed as macular degeneration, a very rare and incurable disease. There
was no treatment except keeping the eyes moist with some eye drops. He
had become very short sighted which was a big handicap in his daily office
work. He has become irritable, has fear of an uncertain future, loss of
confidence and an inferiority complex. He was prescribed a combination of

Constant thoughts of the impending obesity gave her many sleepless nights.

75. A case no pathy could diagnose:

Mrs. Aggarwal felt very uncomfortable from the constant moistness in
one nostril. The doctors could not make head or tail of this case. Thought of
this trouble not being diagnosed with no chance of getting rid of, kept
rotating in her mind, giving her sleepless nights. She was afraid that this
trouble, which had no cause and no diagnosis might be the beginning of
something serious. It was necessary to rid her mind of the fear and the
persistent thoughts, and wetness from her nostril.

of the constant headache and fear of aggravation if he walked bare-headed.
77. Intelligent, but does not get far in exams:

Viver Parmer was quite intelligent but did not do well at school because
he would not touch his text book till the examination was very close.
He had no interest in the school text books and felt bored while
studying them. He fixed his attention on the book, but soon forgot what he
had read and repeated the same mistakes, again and again.
Besides the fear of examination, he was afraid of his father who had a

83. Feverish but no fever:

rheumatic pains (movement) started 5 years ago after menopause. Skin
trouble started after use of hair dyes. Constipation off and on, flatulence
with loud eructation puts her in an unviable position in society. Constant
thoughts about this trouble bothered her. Doubts if she would finally be
relieved troubled her. She has a quick templer which flares up easily. A

85. Liver damaged by excessive drinking:

Lachhman Singh, came all the way from Ludhiana to seek relief in the
following case history:
H/o liver damage resulting in jaundice due to over-drinking. He has left
drinking and there is a lot of improvement by allopathic treatment which he
is still continuing. He does not feel any symptom of jaundice although the
doctor says, there is still a trace left. He complains of weakness, fear of
disease and anxiety for his children. He also wants to get rid of these
symptoms. He was prescribed, White Chestnut+ Mimulus+Crab
Apple+Olive+Red Chestnut.
86. Heaviness in the head, revealed high blood pressure:

When Mr. Aggarwal complained of heaviness in the head, the doctor
casually checked his blood pressure, which showed 190/100 mm. of Hg. He
never dreamt that he could ever have high blood pressure.
The doctor prescribed allopathic drugs with instructions to have saltless
and fatless food, avoid exertion and take complete bed rest, but he was very
distressed.
A prescription of White Chestnut+Mimulus+Crab Apple was given.
87. Is there some fault in my salt?:

“Is there some fault in my salt?”, asked Manjeet Kaur, weepingly. She
felt distressed that no body responded to her service – she always served
others, both relatives and friends, with good food, even money, exhaused
herself physically in their service, yet she got nothing in return, not even a
word of appreciation from any quarter.
The thought bothered her day and night, “What is wrong with my salt?
Why do people not appreciate my services?” She became very irritable and
fussy.
She was prescribed:
Chicory for her self-pity.
White Chestnut for constant thoughts.
Impatiens for irritability.
88. Asked for Rescue Remedy when sub-conscious:

Manpreet Singh, 16 years, had a fit in the bathroom. His mother, who in
normal times was always cool and collected and had a fair knowledge of
homoeoapthy and Bach flower remedies, was totally non-pulsed when she
had to remove Manpreet, in a semi-nude state from the bathroom, after
hearing his muffled groans. All she could do was to repeat God’s name and
exclaim “‘O’ God ! what can I do”. Her mind had become absolutely blank.
Precisely at that moment Manpreet opened his mouth and mumbled, “put
‘Rescue’ in my mouth”.
Rescue Remedy did its rescue work and Manpreet was up and fully
conscious after a few minutes. Rescue Remedy is a combination of 5
remedies: Cherry Plum, Rock Rose, Clematis, Impatiens and Star of
Bethlehem.
89. He was fear impersonified:

Kumar A. Singh, 44 years, was fear personified. Always apprehensive
as if something was going to happen; fear of some disease. He had the first
attack of fear syndrome in 1984. Long treatment by allopaths, then
ayurvedic treatment, followed by homoeopathic treatment gave no relief.
The trouble aggravates in the morning, during winters and when he is alone.
He constantly thinks of it.

90. The tutor left him in despair:

Mehul Gupta, 5 years, who was otherwise quite active and intelligent
could just scrape through school exams with only 49% marks. He could not

give up his tuition as the boy was incorrigible and the tutor did not want to
get a bad name.

removed at the age of 10 years. H/o typhoid, which relapsed when he was
15 years old. Abdomen feels bloated after eating. Brother died of throat
cancer. Dandruff.
Constant fear of cancer. Has become very irritable. He wants to get rid
of his ailments and unpleasant sensations (bloating, etc.).

92. The shock disturbed her menstrual cycle:

Miss. Chawla had a normal menstrual cycle of 3 weeks since the last 6
years. For the last few months, it had been appearing after every 10 days,
and it was profuse and very debilitating.
She had constant fear of it reappearing at any odd time and was
therefore unable to chalk out any outdoor programme for the day.
The whole trouble started after an incident, when the principal of the
school, where she was employed as a teacher, insulted and threatened her
before her colleagues. She had not been able to recover from this shock and
the thought of the insult persisted in her mind, day and night. She felt very
weak. She was prescribed a combination of:

93. Felt lonely in his own family:
S. Piara Singh got the biggest shock of his life, at the death of his wife,
a couple of years ago.
He had a loving family and a good business from which he had retired.
He had no financial problems. But when his sons and their spouses left for
their jobs and the grandchildren left for their school, he felt very lonely and
distracted. At night, he had to get up frequently to throw out the water that
accumulated in his mouth due to increased salivation. He had not been able
to get rid of this salivation by any treatment. Constant thoughts of
loneliness were very oppressive.
He was prescribed:

3. Chicory for the feeling of loneliness in his own family – could not

94. Not sure, if he would remember:

Amandeep Singh, a student of class XI, fared very badly in his school
examination. He had no bad habits and worked hard at his books, but he
complains of bad memory. He can remember only a few things out of what
he reads very attentively. He cannot retain what he learns. He is never sure
whether he will be able to remember a particular lesson, howsoever,
attentively he learns it. The thought of his forgetfulness preys upon his
mind day and night and he is afraid of the consequences of his failure in
university examination.

95. Insomnia that defied diagnosis:

Mrs. Meena Kapur, 45 years, complains of chronic insomnia for the past
several years. She could not go to sleep before 3 a.m., and whatever part of
the night she slept, her mind was occupied with dreams, which were
assorted and never of the same nature.
Often at night, but sometimes even during daytime, she suddenly
perspired, without any cause.
All other functions of her body were normal.
She was prescribed a combination of:
1. Scleranthus for assorted dreams.
2. Aspen for causeless or latent fear in mind as shown by sudden,
causeless sweat.
96. Fear that had no rationale:

Guneet had a fear of being touched on the breast, by any male member
since she was eight years old. During early days, she did not even trust her
father when she was alone in his company. Long treatment by Bach flower
remedies had given her substantial relief which had enabled her to sit for
her board examination, where there were boys seated around and the
supervisor was also a male member.
However, when she joined a woman’s college and got herself admitted
in the girls hostel, she could not shed her fear of being touched on her
breast by some girl friend. She could not show this fear to the other girls
and kept a brave face outside while she was tortured inside. This showed in
her easy irritability. She was prescribed, Mimulus+Agrimony+ Impatiens,
and when she expressed a desire to be like others, Larch was added to the
previous prescription.
97. Afraid of kidney stones:

Satish Verma, during a routine check up of his health was told that he
had small stones lodged in the kidney and they could be removed by a
simple operation.
He had no trouble earlier and did not even know that he had kidney
stones. Now that an operation was suggested he became conscious of
kidney stones. The thought of getting rid of them quickly, came to his mind
again and again, but he was afraid of an operation in that vital organ.
He was prescribed a combination of White Chestnut+ Walnut+Crab
Apple+Mimulus, t.d.s.
98. Dissolution of partnership unnerved him:

Piare Lal was worried and depressed at the thought of impending
dissolution of a 35 years old partnership with his elder brother, who had
been controlling the accounts all through, and acted as a senior partner. He
lacked self-confidence, and was afraid at the thought of managing the
business, all by himself. He could not sleep due to the disturbing thoughts
and felt tired in the morning. He had become very irritable. He was
prescribed a combination of:

4. Hornbeam for morning exhaustion.

The above combination was to be taken thrice daily.
99. Heading towards throat cancer, but . . . . .:

Mrs. Mitlesh Sharma, wife of an army jawan posted at Patiala, had been
under allopathic treatment for stomatitis, bad throat and faulty digestive
system for many years.
She had been shunted from one Army Hospital to another to consult the
specialists, and ultimately was referred to a cancer specialist in the Army
Hospital of Delhi. After examining the patient and studying the case file, he
came to the conclusion, that it was a case of over-medication on the false
assumption that the case was in the initial stage of mouth or throat cancer.
He could see that with this treatment the case was indeed heading towards
cancer. He advised them to immediately stop allopathic medicines and go in
for homoeopathy or some other alternative treatment. After neutralising the

100. When he failed to perform:

Ranjit, 23 years, fell in bad society at an early stage and started hand
practice (masturbation). Once he accompanied his friends to try sexual
intercourse with a girl and was shocked to find that he was unable to
perform. He felt humbled before his friends and became morose and
depressed.
Treatment by a psychologist cost him Rs. 10,000/- without any relief.
The thought of ‘impotency’ bothered him day and night. Negative
thoughts took away his self-confidence, not only in the sexual sphere but in

had lost her confidence. Her parents had even got her to change her subjects

practically every week and the pain lasted for 3-4 days every time. She
lived in perpetual fear of headache which could come at anytime. Thoughts

As the examination approached near, Kanwal Preet Singh lost his self-

had read. Fear of examination bothered him day and night. He could not
sleep at night and fix his attention on the book while reading it.

104. He had the ability but no confidence:

Dwarka Nath, 51 years, a bank manager at Goa, came on some official
duty to Delhi and described his problem thus: He is quite capable but lacks
self-confidence to push himself forward in his career. He easily cleared, five
out of six, departmental examination, but lacked courage to appear for the
final test.
Meanwhile, much of his junior staff has superceded him and he is
jealous of them. Jealousy has been his fault from early childhood and he has
never taken kindly to others success. His mind becomes suddenly blank in
the midst of any activity. He has negative thinking, remains sad for no

105. Stammering was his undoing:

Aashish, twenty seven, felt that stammering had been his undoing
throughout his life. In school, at college and in the service, he had never
been able to “get outside of himself”. Constant fear of being ridiculed in
society or being made fun of by someone mimicking his speech in the
presence of friends; fear of facing his over-strict boss who could not listen
patiently to his broken speech, had made him completely lose his self-
confidence.
A combination of White Chestnut+Walnut+Larch+ Mimulus, t.d.s.,
for the last 2 months, had substantially improved his condition.
Next time when he came to collect the medicine, he requested for some
“stronger” combination. Evidently, he wanted a quicker relief. Impatiens
was added to the previous prescription.
106. Why have new clothes at this age?:

Harminder Kaur was sixty and she had all the worldy things which
should keep a person happy.
When her grandson pointed out that her shirt was worn out and she
should have a new shirt, she remarked that it was not necessary to have new
things at this age. This remark was a clear indication of her negative
thinking.
She had chronic stomach trouble with indigestion and loud eructations
which prevented her from participating in many social functions. She
desperately wanted to get rid of this disability.
A combination of White Chestnut+Walnut+Crab Apple+Gentian,
t.d.s. was prescribed.
107. She could not wait to see the effect of the remedy:
Ashmeet Kaur had a very bad cold on the day prior to her board
examination. Homoeopathic medicine was given, but she could not even
wait to see the effect of the medicine. “Uncle I am in a very bad plight. My
nose is running, there are tears in my eyes and I am sneezing all the time.
How can I study? I have to go over the whole year’s course of the subject
today and tonight. The homoeopathic medicine has cured my headache but
the above symptoms still persist.”
Her talk indicated her constant fear of the examination and her desire to
get immediate relief, even before the remedy has time to act. She was

taken every 2 hours on the 1st day and thrice daily till her examinations last.
108. Cold aborted in one day:

Satinder had a very bad cold since yesterday, with constant cough,
frequent sneezing and water dripping from his nose all the time. It was not
relieved by Aconitum 30, taken every 2 hours.
He expected this trouble to last for at least one week if he stuck to only
homoeopathic treatment. There was only one thought which bothered him
day and night. He wanted to get rid of the bad cold immediately.
A combination of White Chestnut+Crab Apple, given every 2 hours
gave him relief in one day.
109. Strange behaviour of a cow:

Mohan Sarup, a farmer, aged 70 years, was kneeling forward to do
some work. An American cow was standing closely behind him. Suddenly,
the cow put her two front feet on Mohan Sarup’s shoulder, bringing him
down under its several ton weight. Did she mistake him for a bull, nobody
can say.
How Mr. Sarup wriggled out from under the cow is nothing, short of a
miracle. He was bruised on the chest and legs and felt as if the blood
circulation had stopped in his legs. He had lost his self-confidence, in as
much as he would not undertake any work and was afraid that the blood
supply would stop if he did any work. A few doses of Larch+Mimulus
restored his self-confidence and rid him of his fear.
110. Vengeance was the cause of his addiction:

When Ram Dass came to know that his elder brother had been
swindling him in their joint partnership concern, he was overwhelmed with
hatred and desire for vengeance against his brother.
He was burning with hatred and a desire to wreak vengeance but could
not initiate any action for fear of the elder brother who was much stronger
on all fronts.
A friend suggested a peg or two of liquor to forget his agony. Taking
liquor regularly became a habit which he could not discard later on.

111. Incomplete cases do not cure:

Dilshad, 8 years, was reported to have a violent temper, and was given
Cherry Plum, thrice daily. After one week when it was reported that there
was no relief, it was decided to have a fresh look at the complete case.
After thorough questioning it was revealed that the boy suffered from
night terrors and used to get up in bed with a frightened look. He was over-
attached to his mother, and often prevented her from doing her household
jobs if he had to be away from her, even for a short while.

3. Chicory for over-attachment to his mother.

112. She could not open her mouth to talk:
Dilpreet Kaur, 19 years, had stomatitis for the last 5 years and could not
be cured by any treatment. When she was brought to us, she could not open
her mouth even to talk.
According to her mother, she was very weak when she was born but
otherwise she did not have any trouble. Her mother had 2 abortions. Father
was hypertensive and diabetic. It was pointed out to her parents that it was
not possible for a child to remain healthy for 14 years and then have trouble
for 5 years especially when there was nothing in the heredity to warrant this
trouble. After much probing it was revealed that she had had repeated
attacks of mumps. She was prescribed 1 dose of Parotidinum 1M to offset
the poison of mumps, and 1 dose of Merc. 1M for the acute condition of

Walnut+Olive+Mimulus+Impatiens, t.d.s. to cover her feelings of
weakness, fear and irritability.
113. He became very possessive as his end came near:

Devi Dayal, 82 years, a retired Air India official, had already been
through bypass surgery but still had problems with his heart, off and on and
had to visit the nursing home. He was living in his house with his daughter
(he had no son).
Lately, he had become very irritable. As the fear of the inevitable
gripped him, he became very possessive of his assets, his bank balance, the
F.D.Rs., the shares, etc. This change had come recently when he returned
from the nursing home after paying a heavy bill. The following
combination helped restore his mental balance:
Mimulus+Chicory+Impatiens.
114. He lost his way to the bathroom:

Harneet, 18 years, got up at night for urination and instead of going
towards the bathroom on his right hand side, walked through the left hand
door and started urinating in the verandah where his father was sleeping.
When his father asked him, what was he doing, he replied in sleep that he
was urinating.
On being physically shaken by his father, he woke up to find what he
had done, he felt ashamed, expressed regrets and went back to sleep.
Although it was only his first act, he was afraid it might repeat. He became
tense and the fear of repeating the silly act never left his mind. He was, by
nature, very impatient. He was prescribed a combination of, White

115. She did not conceive in five years:

Mrs. R. Kapoor, 29 years, married 5 years ago, complained of inveterate
constipation for the last 4 months which did not respond to even one dose
of Syphilinum 1M. Complete case taking revealed that she had not
conceived even once during the last 5 years and had been on hormonal
treatment for the last 3 years. Husband’s sperm count was satisfactory. Her
eggs were alright in growth. Artificial insemination had been tried,
ingestion’s had been tried, but to no effect, and now she was fedup of the
allopathic treatment. A thorough probe into her mental make up revealed
that she had a postponing nature, was irritable and desired a very early

116. Thought he was impotent:

Sanjay, 33 years, became afraid that he had become impotent. For the
last one year, he had not been able to perform the sexual act. At the time of
coition or even before it, he did not have any erection, although his wife
confirmed that he had normal erection during sleep. Clinical tests showed
he was normal. He was very indecisive and had a postponing nature. A year
ago there was a theft in his house. Since then he had a constant fear in the
mind. He has a strong desire to wreak vengeance against the person who
was responsible for getting that theft executed. He has lost his self-
confidence, cannot face anybody and the thought of his inadequacy haunts
him day and night.

117. Hypertension and sugar frightened her:

118. Repeated failures had totally unnerved him:

When a person has met with repeated failures for quite a long time, he
becomes hopeless.
He often loses self-confidence and ceases to make any effort to retrieve
the lost ground. Whether it is a case of some long drawn out physical or
mental ailment or a never ending court case or family feud, the person who
loses hope and self-confidence becomes the worst sufferer.
When Om Parkash learnt that the other party had filed an appeal in the
High Court, against the lower court’s judgement given in his favour, after
15 years litigation, he felt totally shattered. He lost every hope of getting

120. Trouble started after mental shock:
Tiratha Singh, 75 years, was reported to have suddenly lost all appetite
and become very weak. He had become very irritable. Formerly, he was
known to be a very religious person with a very sweet temper and all
healthy habits.
He had gone to Jalandhar to stay with his daughter. It was there that he
felt sudden weakness and on medical check up was found to have sugar,
fasting 120 mg/dl and post-prandial 210 mg/dl. He associated all his
problems, including the high blood sugar to the mental shock he received
on witnessing the accident of his younger daughter-in-law who slipped in
the bathroom and broke her wrist.

121. Change of prescription was necessary:

Dr. Saranjit Singh, who had earlier benefited from Bach flower
remedies, complained that for the last 10 days, he was feeling very bad.
With a view to change his prescription according to his present
symptoms, we elicited from him the following information:
He does not feel fresh in the morning, feels better in the evening and
night, finds life monotonous and has no interest in it, thoughts keep rotating
in his mind, is fed up with his long treatment and wants to get rid of all his
troubles quickly. He was prescribed a combination of:
1. White Chestnut for repeating thoughts.
2. Impatiens for desire for quick relief.
3. Hornbeam for feeling worse in the morning, and better in the
evening.
4. Olive for finding life monotonous and without interest.
5. Crab Apple for his desire to get rid of his troubles.
122. She had lost all hope of recovery:

Mrs. Samina Kidwai, 33 years, was suffering from chronic back pain
since the last 6 years. Allopathic treatment held no hope. The X-ray reports
had established lumbar spondylitis. She suffered from sciatica pains. Partial
relief was all that she could get from homoeopathic treatment at Lucknow.
It was under these circumstances that she was called to Delhi by her father,
who had benefited from Bach flower therapy.

She could not believe how she could get 50% relief in 3 days.
123. Urticaria kept her awake:

Harvinder Kaur complained that she has not slept the whole night due to
itching. She had taken Apis and Rescue repeatedly but could not get any
relief in urticaria. Since the morning she had taken Thyroidinum and Apis
again, but failed to get any relief.

Benarsi indulged in frequent absentism from the factory, due to
occasional attacks of migraine. He was not so worried about the migraine as
from a feeling that his body was bloating, that there was general swelling of

repeats the same sentence, whatever comes to his mind during all his
waking hours. Six months ago he was given electric shock treatment to
tame his violent temper. Probing into his past history I found that he had
suffered from high fever with unconsciousness at the age of one. Since then

had left her old husband alone in India, to help her son in America who had

138. When there was a violent reaction of Bach flower remedies:

Mr. Gupta, 40 years, was suffering from gastritis for the past several
years and had undergone all clinical tests, which were clear. He said that his
liver was not working properly and his digestion was poor. Mentally, he
was afraid for himself and anxious for others. Negative thoughts kept
revolving in his mind.
A combination of Aspen+Mimulus+White Chestnut+Gentian+Crab
Apple+Walnut was prescribed.
He reported that after taking the medicine he had profuse perspiration
and severe vertigo. The medicine was stopped and the case was retaken. He
was asked what bothered him most. He disclosed that he had become very

positive relief. This mind is confused. Bach flower therapy was very highly
recommended, and it has also shown a reaction. Now I am truly confused.
Should I continue with this treatment or seek help else where? He was
politely told that nobody could cure a chronic gastritis trouble with 2 or 3
doses. Profuse perspiration is one of nature’s way of eliminating some
suppressed poisons in the body, so you should not get upset with it. It is for
your ultimate good. We prepared the 2nd prescription strictly according to

Mrs. Harinder Kaur, 48 years, had her uterus removed due to an alleged

Dinesh Aggarwal, 24 years, from Rattan Garh, Rajasthan, was a
brilliant student upto his B.Sc. degree. He joined an engineering college,

whenever he get sudden perspiration. He had cervical spondylitis, a history
of giardia in stools, sensation of irritation in a belt around the lower
abdomen, fear and apprehension of some calamity and a constant train of

He had interest in mathematics and wrote his paper in that subject. In
other subjects he showed no interest, and was inattentive while studying
those subjects. The school teachers confirmed that he was quite intelligent
and well behaved, but could not score any marks unless he wrote his
answers in the examination hall. He had fear of darkness and punishment if
he failed in the examination. He is very possessive.

149. H e could not locate his “constitutional remedy” in 30 years:

Dr. Vohra had successfully treated thousands of patients in the last 30
years with Bach flower remedies, but he could not pinpoint his own
constitutional (TYPE) remedy.
Despite his best efforts he could not locate the remedy which best
corresponded to his personality – a remedy which could faithfully define his
basic characters in normal conditions. In his practice he had been always
targeting the negative characteristic of the patient’s moods which he was
called upon to cure.
He could not find any negative trait of permanent nature in his
character. He started analysing both the positive and negative characteristics

153. In the I.C.U. room of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital:

Manjit Singh, aged 54 years, felt some pain in the heart region and went
to the doctor. Since his ECG was clear, he was given some medicine and
sent home. He had another similar attack but his ECG was clear again.
When this attack came for the 4th time and persisted for some time he
went to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for a thorough check up. Angiography
revealed 70% blockage in 2 blood vessels.
He was admitted in the hospital and the same night he had a heart attack
which was fortunately managed in time. By-pass surgery, was advised and
he had to remain in intensive care unit for another 4 days to wait for the
surgeon who was away to U.K.
He had to be treated for mental shock due to sudden revelation of

154. A magazine story changed her life:

Miss. Saroj, 26 years, complained of depressive and negative thoughts.
The trouble started after she read some story of rape in a magazine. The
story made such an impact on her psyche that she could not erase the
memory of the sordid event from her mind and became an introvert. She
blamed herself for having read that story and was penitent for it. Earlier she
had had an attack of tuberculosis followed later by kidney failure.

Manoj Kumar, 28 years, was running a chemist shop in Bihar, when he

life while being treated with medicines from his chemist shop. Although he
had supplied the medicines prescribed by the doctor, he was blamed for the
child’s death. His widowed sister-in-law squarely blamed him for not
properly getting her husband treated. The shock was too much for Manoj to
bear. He closed his chemist shop and came to Delhi to live with his brother.
He could not get mental peace and wanted to end his life. He got his
railway ticket for his village, in Bihar, wrote a suicidal note and with this

The suicidal note was discovered while Manoj was still on the train and
his brother reached Patna by air, before the arrival of Manoj’s train.

invitation cards had been printed for the opening ceremony of the new shop,
Manoj backed out.
Once again he left the village and came to stay with his brother in
Delhi. But in a few days he got restless and wanted to go back to his
village. He was a fully grown man, quite normal and well behaved, who
had became a problem for the family. He had not yet over come the shock
of repeated deaths of his relatives and could not take off the accusation that
he was responsible for the death of his relatives, who got medicines from

156. The compulsions of loneliness:

Miss. Shashi Bala, 43 years, complained of fear of darkness and
loneliness since early childhood. She had intense hatred for untidiness and
dirt in any form. Feels suffocated in a crowd. She has a car and has a
driving license but travels in bus, because of her fear of driving. Suffers
from sudden palpitations without any cause. She did not marry nor felt any
urge for it because of her fear of sex and social complications connected
with marriage. She lives with her mother but fear of loneliness after the
departure of her mother points to the necessity of a life partner. She would
prefer to live alone if she could get rid of her fears which have contributed
towards her lack of self-confidence. She consulted a psychiatrist, who
charged very heavy amounts, for the medicines which only kept her asleep
most of the time. She is an artist and is usefully employed. She is gaining
weight and there are cysts on her arms which she wants to get rid off. She
was prescribed, White Chestnut+Mimulus+Aspen+Crab Apple +Larch,
t.d.s.
157. The child became rebellious:

Vikram Syal, 13 years, had an over-possessive nature and would not let
anybody touch his things. Once his school teacher took his copy book for
corrections, and did not return the same. The copy was lost. Vikram was so
overwhelmed with the loss that he wept bitterly. He would count his copies
before going to school and would count them again when he returned from
school. He lost interest in his studies and became very irritable. His habit of
counting the copies irritated his parents.
He was prescribed White Chestnut+ Impatiens+ Chicory.
On his second visit on 2.11.99, it was reported that there was no relief.
Case was taken again, and it showed that the boy had both fear and
hatred for the teacher and for his parents. The teacher was irritated because
Vikram demanded his lost copy from her repeatedly and his father, who was
unemployed since some time poured his anger on the child unduly.
The child had become morose, he would not talk to anybody, did not
play and remained in a state of terror all the time. He admitted that he had
no taste for chemistry and maths.
He was prescribed Rock Rose+Holly+Chicory+Olive.
On his third visit on 17.11.99, his mother reported that there was some
change in his social life, as he was quite at home in the company of his
friends and was often seen laughing, yet he showed no interest in studies.
His teacher also admitted that there was a change in his social attitude, but
he was very obstinate and insisted on sitting by the side of a friend who was
least concerned with his studies, and if he was asked to sit by the side of a
window he would keep staring out of the window. At this stage of the
interview, his parents were politely asked to leave the child alone with me.
Vikram told me that he can study while he is at school, but not at home.
He still has fear of losing his copies. He still hates his school teacher and
his parents who frequently quarrel with each other. He was also being
unduly punished at school and at home. He wants to be a good student and
was willing to leave the company of the bad student at school.
Here was a boy who wanted to do what his teacher and his parents
wanted him to do and he was capable of doing it and yet he was doing
exactly the opposite of it just to show his rebellion against their dictate – to
cut one’s nose to spite his face.
He was given one dose of Staphysagria 1M to erase from his mind the
sense of injustice done to him and a combination of
Mimulus+Holly+White Chestnut.
His parents were advised to be more careful and considerate towards the
boy in the future.
158. She wept and wept:

Urmila Rani, 52 years, complained of profuse menstruation for 2 days
which leaves her very weak. Clinical tests showed fibroids in the uterus and
was advised to get them removed surgically. This trouble had been there for
the last 25 years. She also has leucorrhea which is profuse and offensive.
She is also suffering from hypertension and is keeping it under control by
allopathic medicines.
She feels there is some load on her shoulders and thinks that the whole
structure of her body is shattered. She has nobody to assist her in the
household duties. She is tired of the long allopathic treatment. She does not
share her grief with anybody and continues to suffer silently. She has fear of
the future, and wants to get rid of the fibroid without surgery. She weeps
and weeps all the time.
She was prescribed a combination of White Chestnut+
Walnut+Mimulus+Crab Apple+Agrimony, thrice daily.
159. When Crab Apple failed to deliver:

Miss. R. Mehra, 21 years, lost her boy friend in an accident. She was so
overwhelmed with grief that she lost interest in anything and everything and
wept bitterly if somebody tried to console her. She had chronic trouble with
her periods, which were always late by 1 to 2 months every time. After the
death of her fiance she had developed a fear and an apprehension that some
misfortune awaited to take on her. She was given a combination of White
Chestnut+Walnut+ Crab Apple+Aspen.
She did not get any relief. Memories of the past association haunted her.
Crab Apple failed to rid her mind of the old memories. Her over-
attachment for her fiance was too strong to be wiped off by mere desire to
get rid of the past memories. The prescription was amended to include
Chicory to counter the effect of over-attachment to the past memories.
160. The injection stopped her vomitings, but. . . . . . :

Mrs. Amrit Kaur had her vomitings stopped by a single allopathic
injection, but its reaction was very violent. She developed vertigo and felt
everything around her was revolving. Her upper legs felt numb and the
lower legs felt as if “dead”. She could not stand on her legs and was very
unsteady even when supported to reach the bathroom and had constant fear
of falling down. She refused to go to the allopathic doctor for the treatment
of this new trouble. She was prescribed:
