Summary
A verbal is usually defined as a word that is formed from a verb but used in a
sentence as an adjective, an adverb, or a noun. Verbal helps make writing concise
by providing a realm of words that have the vitality of verbs but that can do more
than verbs alone. By using the three kinds of verbals, you can make your writing
more lively, varied and concise.
A verbal with its modifier and complements is called a verbal phrase and can
be used as a single noun, adjective, or adverb. Just verbals, there are three kinds
of verbal phrases: gerunds, infinitives, and participial phrases.
Verbals and verbal phrases exemplify the strength of the English language.
They’re multi-faceted because they maintain their verbal integrity- but they have the
strength to take on a different character.
