the activity sheet.
2 Explain to students they will be working in pairs to
identify the travel vocabulary that will complete the
sentences.
3 Ask students to look at the letters in the box at the top of
the sheet first. They need to unscramble them to make
verbs and nouns related to travel. Give them 2–3 minutes
to complete this part of the activity.
4 Pairs then read the sentences in the second box and PHOTOCOPIABLE © Pearson Education Limited 2020 33

decide which unscrambled word or phrase from the first

box should go in each gap. Inform them they need to use
some of the words more than once, and that they may
need to change the form of the word (e.g. from a verb to
a noun). Verbs should be changed to the correct tense.
Set a time limit of 4–5 minutes for this.
5 Check the answers as a class, drawing students’ attention
to the use of the verb or noun form of each word.

Adaptation and extension

• Using the words in the box, fast finishing pairs can make
their own gapped sentences and exchange them with
another pair who complete them with the correct word.
• For an alternative fast finishing activity, pairs can write
sentences using the travel vocabulary incorrectly (e.g.
After a long flight, the plane took off.). Another pair
identifies the mistake and corrects it (After a long flight,
the plane took off landed.).
