PRESS RELEASE// FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IMPAIRED DRIVER SENTENCED IN CASE THAT TOOK THE LIFE OF

EULESS PD DETECTIVE ALEX CERVANTES AND CRITICALLY INJURED
HIS WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN.

(LAKE WORTH, TX) - On November 27, 2021, the Lake Worth Police
Department responded to a fatality crash in the 4200 block of Boat Club Road.
There, officers found off-duty Euless PD Detective Alex Cervantes deceased,
and his wife and two children critically injured. The preliminary investigation
revealed that the suspect, then 26-year-old Dylan Molina, ran a red light and
struck Detective Cervantes’ vehicle broadside. At the time of the crash, Molina
had a blood alcohol concentration twice the legal limit. Molina was arrested
and later indicted on one count of intoxication manslaughter and three counts
of intoxication assault.

Today in Tarrant County Criminal District Court 1, Molina plead guilty to all
charges, including a previously unknown DWI. He was sentenced to 15 years in
prison for the death of Detective Cervantes, and 10 years in prison for the
injuries inflicted upon Detective Cervantes’ wife and two children. For the
previously unknown DWI, Molina plead guilty to 6 months in jail. Sentences for
all charges will be served concurrently.

“The men and women of the Lake Worth Police Department grieve for the
Cervantes family and the Euless Police Department, understanding that today’s
plea will never replace Alex.”, said Lake Worth Police Chief J.T. Manoushagian.
“Although thankful for justice, we will all be forever reminded of the painful and
lasting wounds caused by one person’s choice to drive while impaired.”

The Lake Worth Police Department would like to thank and commend the
officers, detectives, and crime scene technicians who prepared this difficult
case. We would also like to thank ADA Ashlea Deener and the members of the
Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office for their commitment to
seeking justice on behalf of the Cervantes family.
