expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included

The following dance steps are basically used in Sakuting.

in folk dancing like T-shirt and jogging pants.

2. Don’t forget to do warm up to prepare the muscles before performing


the basic dance steps.

3. Execute the following dance steps used in folk dancing:

- Skip - Touch Step
- Bleking - Change Step
- Gallop - Waltz Turn
- Mincing - Waltz Step
- Parallel Tortillier - Stamping

4. You may use your book or other references for you to be guided on
how to execute the given basic dance steps properly.

5. While executing the basic dance steps used in folk dancing, don’t

Let Us Remember
1. Folkdance – It is a dance developed by people that reflect the life of the
people of a certain country or region.

2. Sakuting – is an ethnic term that refers to the rhythmic sticks producing


the accompaniment of the dance.

3. Boys: Always put your hands on WAIST. Girls: Always put your hands on
SKIRT.

4. Slide (glide) – Slide right foot sideward. Step left foot close to right. Slide left
foot sideward. Step right foot close to left.

5. Skip – move along lightly, stepping from one to the other with a hop or
bounce.

6. Bleking – Step right foot sideward. Place left heel in front. Step left foot
sideward. Heel right foot in front.

7. Gallop – Step right (left) foot in fourth in front, count 1 and cut the right
(left) foot with left (right) thus displaying it and the same time taking the
weight of the body with the left (right) foot, count 2.

8. Mincing – Starting position: Right (Left) in fifth position in front, heels
slightly raise or with the leading foot flat on the floor. Execute tiny steps
sideward right (left) as many times as necessary. In 3/4 time take one step
for every count. In 2/4 time it maybe 2 steps for every count.

9. Parallel Tortillier – Pivot on heels (and turn toes both), Pivot on toes (and
turn heels both).

10. Pivot Turn – To turn with the ball, heel, or whole foot, on a fixed place or
point.

11. Touch Step – Point right foot in front, count 1. Step right close to left,
count 2, 3. This is commonly done in front. =1M

12. Change step – Step right foot in front, count 1. Step left close to right foot
in rear, count and. Step right foot quickly in front, count 2. This may be
executed in any directions.

13. Waltz Turn – Take two waltz steps turning around either right or left in
place.

14. Waltz Step – Step right foot sideward, count 1. Step left foot close to right,
count 2. Step right foot in place, count 3. Step left foot sideward, count 1.
Step right foot close to right, count 2. Step left foot in place, count 3.

15. Stamping – To bring down the foot forcibly and noisily on the floor (like
doing a heavy step) with or without transfer or weight.
