This time, we are going to read to you a very short story about seahorse.

Seahorse

The seahorse is a really


strange creature. The head of this
odd animal greatly resembles that
of a pony. Its body is almost
completely covered by a
somewhat bony material. The
tiny creature moves quite slowly
through the water in an upright
position. It sometimes clings to a
piece of seaweed.
The mother seahorse does
not carry the eggs after they lay
them. The father carefully
nurtures them in his pouch. He
generously let the almost
invisible baby seahorse remain
there in his pouch until they can
care for themselves.

D. Generalization (Wrapping Up!)

 The underlined words are adverbs of manner. Adverbs of manner answer the
question “how”. They modify verbs and adjectives. It usually ends with –ly.
 Adverbs of manner add more information to verbs to make them more specific.

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Analyze the sentences of the story. Underline the adverbs of manner.

John was waiting patiently for his friends and he was smiling happily. They were all going
out for dinner for his birthday. John’s phone rang and he picked it up and listened carefully. His
friends were already at the restaurant! John ran quickly to the restaurant. When he arrived, he saw
that all his friends and family were there – more than 50 people. He laughed loudly as everyone sang
happy birthday to him. It was a surprise party!
