Очікувані результати:
використовуючи необхідний мовний інвентар до теми “ Pure science. Inventors
and inventions”, на кінець уроку учні вдосконалять свої рецептивні, інтеграційні
та продуктивні комунікативні види мовленнєвої діяльності:
- розумітимуть фрази та вирази, що належать до теми “ Pure science. Inventors
and inventions”;
- розумітимуть тексти, що містять незнайому лексику з даної теми;
- спілкуватимуться, виконуючи завдання, що вимагають обміну інформацією з
даної теми;
- ставитимуть запитання і відповідатимуть на них, обмінюючись інформацією з
даної теми
I. Introduction
Good morning, students.
How are you today? Are you ready for the lesson?
Today we’ll sum up our work on the topic “Pure science. Inventors and inventions”.
We are going to talk about inventors and inventions and their impact on people's life,
advantages and disadvantages. The famous proverb says “Necessity is the mother of
invention”. What does it mean?
II. Warming up
Well done. As you can see modern inventions can be useful and harmful at the same
time.
2. Pair Work
Look at the mind map again, think and discuss what are the advantages and
disadvantages of these inventions? Divide into pairs. Student A tells us about the
advantages. Student B tells us about the disadvantages. Here are the expressions in
the Speaking Bank and you can use them in your discussion.
1. Checking up hometask
And now I would like to check up your hometask. Your hometask was to collect
some information about inventors and their inventions and make a report about one of
them. Let's listen to some of the students.
Great presentations. We've got to know a lot of useful information about inventors
and their inventions. We have to admire the intelligence and creativity of such great
scientists.
2. Watching
You have already mentioned different inventors and their inventions. Do you know
who Stephen Hawking is? What did he discover?
In this activity you will watch a news video about Stephen Hawking.
1) Pre-watching activity
But before you watch a video, you read and complete a news story.
While you are watching a video, you will test your knowledge of Stephen Hawking.
Choose the correct option to complete the facts about Stephen Hawking.
3) After-watching activity
In this activity your task is to put the words in the correct order to make quotes from
the video.
3. Reading
You've got to know some facts about a modern genius’s life and the reasons why he
made his invention. But there are a plenty of other creations which seem funny, a bit
ridiculous at the first sight, but nevertheless they are very necessary because the can
save lives.
We are going to read a text called “What are cat's eyes?” Have you got any ideas
what “cat's eyes” means?
And now do after reading activities. Read the sentences and choose the best
alternatives.
So, is it an important invention? Give your ideas.
4. Kahoot game
And now you have a chance to check what you know about famous inventors and the
most important inventions in the history of humanity.
Now we are going to play a kahoot game. I know you like this sort of activity. So,
take your gadgets, look at the screen. You can see your pin, so create your user name.
But remember, your time is limited, you've only got 20 seconds for each question.
