Developing Strategic Partnership between Pharma Industry and Academia An academic institution is an epicenter for knowledge creation, storage and its explosion. It has the mandate to disseminate quality education to its stake-holders. In the context of pharmacy education in India, it is, however, observed that the contribution of pharmacy institutions to the success story of developing a self-reliant capability in pharmaceutical technology in post-independent era is limited in nature. The academic research pursued in institutions remains theoretical and its utility for commercial exploitation is rarely attempted. The academicians and researchers need to be leaders, rather than followers in terms of basic and applied research in pharmaceutical sciences. It is achievable by adopting a strategic approach to enhance our research capabilities, so as to enable their fructification in commercially exploitable ventures of global standard. The need of the hour is to seriously review the variance in perception of industry and pharmacy institutions and to undertake SWOT analysis of industry-academic collaboration. The research in pharmacy colleges must move centre-stage from the periphery of drug development approach as evident today. The blue-print for industry-institution interface in pharmacy sector has to be well designed, focused and pin-pointed taking into consideration different facets such as, availability
