    Amy Beach was an American composer born in 1867 who was a child prodigy in music. She composed her first symphony, called the Gaelic Symphony, in 1894, making her the first female American composer to compose and publish a symphony. She composed over 150 works throughout her career, nearly all of which were published, which was remarkable for a female composer during a time when women faced marginalization.
