IMPACT OF COVID 19
In the era of coronavirus, away from the gloom and
paranoia, lies the world of ‘quarantine and chill’, where
people, who have confined themselves to their homes,
are now finding ways to kill
time.
From playing music on their balconies to
Instagramming dalgona coffee to digging up forgotten
hobbies, people are doing whatever it takes for the days
to pass. But, when it Comes to recreation in a gadget-
ridden world, it is the smartphone games that take the
sash.
International games such as
Houseparty and Psych have
emerged as one of the most-played
games during the quarantine
period.
In fact, their user
engagement has reached a level
that users are experiencing lags in
the interface of Psych. In India, the
season of gaming startups appears
to be at its peak.

It is mostly the multiplayer games such as Carrom,
Ludo and Royal Battle that have seen a spike in users
since the lockdown, where people appear to be
playing more with their friends and family. “60% of
the people who play our games come from the age-
group of 18 to 25, mostly males. However, amid the
lockdown, we see an increase in users from the age
group of 25-35. A marginal increase in female traffic
has also been observed
Paavan Nanda, co-founder,
WinZo Games told ET Digital

“The surge for us came suddenly. On the

weekend of March 15, there was a 3x
increase in game plays and 30% higher
traffic. As the country locked down, this
grew every single hour,”

"Two years ago, Winzo was working with 25,000

micro influencers who were earning
approximately Rs 30,000-40,000 a month “.

As of date that number has grown to 1 lakh

influencers who are earning Rs 75,000 to Rs 1
lakh on an average per month. We expect the
numbers to double, that is to become 2 lakh
within the next one year and their payout is also
expected to increase 2-2.5 times.
"Two years ago Winzo was engaging with
300-400 translators. The number has now
grown to be 7,000 translators across the
country with Winzo adding 5 more
languages and taking the number of
languages to 12. We are expecting the
number of translators to go up by at least
1.5 to 2 times in the next year or so. The
translators earn Rs 35,000-50,000 on an
average every month,“
