A man was found dead in Elliott Bay early Thursday.

At 7:30 a.m. Thursday, a passerby walking near the docks in downtown Seattle called 911 to report seeing a floating body near Pier 56.

The Seattle Fire Department responded and retrieved the man, who they estimated was in his 30s or 40s.

Seattle police Officer Eric Muñoz said officers assisted the Fire Department by directing them to where the body was floating.

From a preliminary look there were no signs of trauma, Muñoz said, but the cause of death is unknown. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate.

Officers are looking for video to find out more about what happened before the man entered the water, Muñoz said.
