This summarizes the Ma-ariv service at Congregation Sim Shalom led by Rabbi Deborah McKenzie. It includes prayers, passages from Psalms, and teachings from Rav Nachman of Breslav. The service begins with the call to prayer and a blessing. It then includes the evening prayer, passages about the harmony of brothers dwelling together and listening with an attentive heart during prayer. The summary concludes with a prayer about God's everlasting love for Israel.
2. Behold,
how good
and how pleasant
it is for
brothers to dwell

5. Everlasting and Universal Love
Everlasting love,
You offered you people Israel by
teaching us Torah and mitzvot, laws
and precepts.
Therefore, Adonai our God, when
we lie down and when we rise up,
we will meditate on Your laws an
Your commandments.
We will rejoice in Your Torah for
ever. Day and night we will reflect
on them for they are our life and
doing them lengthens our days.
Never remove Your love from us.
Praise to You, Adonai, who loves
Your people Israel and everyone
from around the world.

inscribe them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

sword, and sorrow. Remove the evil forces that surround us. Shelter us in the

13. Silent Meditation
Do not think that the words of prayer as you say
them, go up to God.
It is not the words themselves that ascend, it is
rather the burning desire of your heart that rises
like smoke towards heaven.
If your prayer consists only of words and letters
and does not contain your heart’s desire, how can
it rise up to God?

Thanksgiving
With all of the things that
bombard us on a daily basis, it can
take tremendous effort to
remember our blessings and not
take them for granted. We often
have to sneak in moments of rest,
resolve, and happiness. It is often
to easy to focus on the negative
and apply energy to these
seemingly urgent matters or
moments much of which leave us
feeling drained and open to
misery, frustration, and distress.

It is our duty to praise the Lord of all, for from the beginning, we were created to be unique
and special. And we bend the knee and humble our hearts in worship and offer thanks to
the Supreme King of kings, the Holy One, the Blessed One.
And it is said, And the Lord shall be sovereign over all the earth: in that day shall the Lord
be One, and Adonai’s name One.

23. יתום קדיש
Mourner’s Kaddish
Let us remember those who have transitioned
to the world beyond to eternal rest. And
though these dearest of souls may no longer
be with us physically, their journeys have been
ever imprinted on our hearts and minds. Even
with the passage of time, the memory of them,
we cherish and hold precious.
If you who are in mourning or observing a
Yahrzeit, please recall those you hold in
cherished and dearest memory, as we say
together the Mourner's Kaddish.

26. All souls are with You, O Sovereign.
Teach us to live wisely and unselfishly, courageously and
fruitfully, in truth and understanding, in love and peace so that
our remembrance of them will be more than just mere moments
of regret, but rather be a catalyst for inspired living.
May the names of those whose memories we cherish be for us
a blessing, and may we be worthy so that those who come after
us may likewise remember us for good, as we remember those
who were unto us a blessing.
And let us say, Amen.
