The pandemic highlighted the disproportionate burden of chronic disease on elderly and underserved communities, who as a result experienced higher rates of COVID-19 mortality. With an interactive presentation (prizes included!), attendees will respond to polling questions to test their knowledge on often unaddressed or even unrecognized key factors which increase the prevalence of chronic disease in these populations and drive the accompanying unsustainable levels of health care spending. Session panelists will offer additional context after each question and provide examples to show how health and life insurers, other payors and health care organizations can implement low-cost, innovative solutions. Such solutions will protect populations against the burden of chronic disease, not only decreasing health care spending, but also minimizing the mortality and morbidity impact of future pandemics.
Attend this session you’ll be able to:
• Describe the scientific basis for the reversal and prevention of chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and autoimmune conditions.• Identify underlying structural factors in health care systems and social determinants of health that result in a disproportionate burden of chronic disease on elderly and underserved populations• Recognize innovative approaches currently being used and considered by health care organizations, insurers and other health care payors to reduce costs and increase healthy life expectancy among all demographic and socioeconomic groups.
