The ICC T20 World Cup win in 2007 steered a storm of T20 Cricket in the country. With the inauguration of the IPL in 2008, the storm only spread to wider masses. The franchise form of cricket has found its relevance with time. Almost two decades later in 2024, as India won their second ICC T20 World Cup, many states in the country have their very own franchise T20 leagues.
Tamil Nadu was one of the first states to act up, and start its own domestic league. The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) was one of the first leagues to be inaugurated in the country, to promote local talent.
The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Shahrukh Khan, Varun Chakravarthy, have all risen up the ranks through the TNPL, and have gone on to represent the IPL, and India. The Tamil Nadu Premier League will be organised under the advisory and financial backing of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

How many teams will participate in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024?
The Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 will be contested between eight teams, as follows:
- Chepauk Super Gillies
- Dindigul Dragons
- Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans
- Lyca Kovai Kings
- Nellai Royal Kings
- Siechem Madurai Panthers
- SKM Salem Spartans
- Trichy Grand Cholas
What is the format of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024?
The month-long tournament will have a round-robin format. All eight teams in the TNPL 2024 will face each other once in the league stage. The league stage will be played over 28 matches. The top four teams at the end of the league stage will qualify for the knockout rounds.
The top two teams will play the Qualifier 1. The winner of the Qualifier 1 will get the direct entry to the TNPL 2024 Semi-final. The third and the fourth placed teams will clash in the Eliminator. The loser of the Eliminator 1 will lock horns against winner of the Eliminator, in Qualifier 2. The winners of Qualifier 1 and 2, will fight for the ultimate glory in TNPL 2024 Final,
What time will the matches start at Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024?
The matches of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 will usually start at 19:15 hours IST.
However, on double-header match days, the afternoon game will kickstart at 15:15 hours IST. The evening games of the double-headers will start at 19:15 hours too.
