Jaron Ennis is one of boxing’s rising stars. “Boots” looks to prove his star power when he defends the IBF welterweight title in his hometown against David Avanesyan on July 13. The fight in Philadelphia airs on DAZN worldwide.

Ennis has impressed since turning pro in 2016. The 27-year-old held the interim IBF title to start 2023. “Boots” was named full-time champion after Terence Crawford got stripped of the belt, just a few months after beating Errol Spence Jr. to become undisputed at welterweight. He still has interest in fighting "Bud" at some point.

Avanesyan held interim WBA, NABF, and European welterweight gold and has fallen short twice at holding world title gold. The Russian-born fighter rebounded in December following a loss against Crawford for the WBO welterweight title.

Ennis was supposed to fight Cody Crowley, who had to undergo eye surgery. With experience against world-class fighters, Avanesyan has a chance to give Ennis his biggest test to date.

“The thing about Avanesyan is he’s very strong and very game. You saw when he fought Crawford,” Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn said via Boxing News 24. “He doesn’t take any backward steps, and it’s a real fight. I felt Avanesyan was the toughest fight, and he would come to fight. Rashidi Ellis isn’t in the IBF’s rankings. So, we had to pick somebody in the top 15.”
